I listen to this "old school" raido program at lunch, and I hear this
Puff Daddy Biggie tribute, Police rip off song. That's not old school.
So what makes a song "old school" is it about the styles and sounds
or is it just after a song is 5 or 10 years old?

I remember Funk Flex called 'Jump Around' old school in 1998. That didn't make much sense.

I thought it could possibly be accurate, but then try comparing 'Protect ya Neck' to 'Sucker MCs'. I

Just Ice had an album called Back To The Old School in 1986. When you think about it like that, I mean, it's all relative.

Also, in the prelude to Can It Be That It Was All So Simple by Wu Tang, RZA was talking about '88 like it was eons ago. Meanwhile, it was 1992/93.

Depends, I guess.

Yeah, and Just started talkin about Goin Way Back in 1987. Talk about premature.

When Run DMC did 'It's all brand new, never ever old school' it must have been 85-86?

Were they pushing the importance of moving forward?

Yeah, because technically they had already pioneered a whole new era in rap. There was no boom bap before Run DMC, period. It was all live bands and/or rapping over disco and Kraftwerk breaks before them more or less. They took hip hop back to the street, away from the knee high boots and glittery outfits. Think about it, GMF and them dressed like Rick James.
