does anyone take these seriously anymore?

there were threats to the subway before 9/11, and the MTA has been on high alert for 4 years now...

parts of Penn Station are shut down right now, dudes running around in HazMat suits... cops searching bags and strollers

well, fuck it, we gotta ride the trains, 4.5 million riders a day. i think we all feel the same..."hopefully its not my train"

well, I'm off to work now, I dont go anywhere near the main hubs today, I am not worried...

Of course.

You can take them seriously and yet not be 'worried', you know. Most people are quite capable of facing these things with a bit of sang froid. 'Taking things seriously' is not synonymous with 'freaking out' and 'acting like a parnaoid lunatic'.

I have a friend who is a news junkie and who listens hard to things like this. She flips around in the various news stations and you can see how those stories create and then fuel her anxiety. She goes in circles and she worries. She's already very nervous about the bird flu.

If I'm not careful when I'm with her, I'll pick up that worry, you know? Sort of without even trying, it'll flow onto me and then I'll start to be more than aware of these things. When I'm with her, I have to remind myself to keep things in perspective, in check.

I listen to the news. Regarding the terror threats--I don't do anything other than to be aware.

i walked around penn last night, in the midst of the "threat" with a puffy black winter jacket and a big adidas sports bag filled to the brim.

no one looked at me twice, even though i was definately most suspicious looking.

i dont care. i go on my daily business. these "threats" come out when bush's aproval ratings go down. fact.

Oh well. I'm heading into NTC tomorrow night for a concert, if they stop me to check my pockets, so be it.
