I've said this before but what the hey, I'll say it again. Why is MTV called MTV? Isn't it supposed to be an abbreviation of Music Television? Then where is the music on MTV? I don't ever see any.
All I do see, however, is propaganda, marketing, erosion of the world's intelligence and a policy of breeding envy, greed, dissatisfaction and consumerism.
Is there a programme on "Music Television" that doesn't try to show you what you are missing - all the big fancy "cribs", the pimped up "rides" and the wonderful, wonderful lifestyle you could be enjoying.
Is 'Rich Girls' nothing more than a piece of American propaganda? Considering I've only seen a minute of it with some song about how "We're American Girls" playing in the background all the way through with at least four mentions in that time of why it was great to be an American - specifically "Being an American allows me to shape myself how I choose."
Is that like the millions of poor Americans who live on the breadline? Can they shape themselves how they please? Or is it just that you are a rich girl and not someone who made herself rich but were born rich on the fortune of a man who makes his fortune from sweatshop labour?
Maybe being American is great if it doesn't mean you'll end up being one of the poor shmucks making daddy's clothing range.
Hey, but not all of MTV's programming is like that. Of course if you don't want the fabulous MTV lifestyle perhaps you and your friends can make it big by getting together, beating each other up and videotaping it. There's three ways to be in this life - either rich or stupid or hating yourself so much you'l beg them to mutilate your face on TV in the hope of looking like Brad Pitt or some non-descript no-name rap star who no-one will remember in a couple of years time.
This being the Beastie Boys message board there will be people smart enough here to say "Like well duh! No shit sherlock!" but there are people who post here who quite clearly have no idea what a pitiful piece of shit MTV is. Serious postings and have anything valuable to say is just too boring, while stupidity, greed and shallowness is the new rock'n'roll. I fear for the state of the world because of this crap. I see a future filled with sedated, moronic masses who have no idea when they are being royally screwed up the butt because of this garbage.
