i've heard different stories; no - it doesn't cause arthirtis, yes - it does.

my index fingers are bending inwards and it looks feral.

Yeah I dont like it when people crack their knuckles. I mean I do it myself but seeing other people doing it makes me wince a little...like i know it doesnt hurt but still. So stop doing it.

it's gone beyond the point of habit. it's like...it just happens out of reflex.
i spose i should stop doing it everywhere else then; ankles, toes, knees, back, neck, elbow...
hmmm...

Yeah you will probably damage your hands in other ways before you get arthritis from cracking them though. Like you could damage the cartilledge/tendons or something...

People hate when I crack my shoulder. I guess it's because it shouldn't do that, but I don't give a shit.

I used to do that all the time. It's certainly not ladylike or good for your joints.

So you might want to stop that if you want people to start treating you like a lady, Matt.

Am I the only one who voted no? It's an old wive's tale that it causes arthritus. It's simply air/fluid in between the joints, and "cracking" them is popping the vaccuum of air/transferring the fluid to another place in the joint. People just say it'll give you bad joints or arthritus or whatever because it's a bad habit. Just like masturbation making you go blind, it won't happen.

yep. this is EXACTLY what i saw on tv, on a medical show. hence why i'm in two minds about it. but both my index fingers are bending inwards fairly awkwardly. if anyone saw that pic of Beth's hand when she had her ring on. her index fingers were bending in the same way. someone commented on it too.

ps. i voted echewta cause i can't choose yes or no.

my vote made 'yes' and 'echewta' equal.

i asked my chiropractor about this very thing the other day, cos my friend cracks his back all the time. it may provide instant relief, but it isnt really good for you in the long run.

i always heard about the arthritis thing as being true, but now that i actually have arthritis, im not sure if cracking is the cause, as ive never cracked my lower back...
