I haven't been on here in a long time, but I hope someone can help me out. We are going on a road trip from Denver to New York, and we are staying a night in Chicago. Does anyone have any advice on where to go or where to stay? We are gonna be there on a Sunday night, not the hottest night of the week. But we are hoping someone might know of some good things to see and a decent hotel to stay in.
I appreciate any help you guys can give.

Depends on what kind of budget you are working with. You can stay at the Four Seasons on the Gold Coast for about $1,000 a night or you can stay at the "No tell motel" up in Lincoln Village for about $35 a night. (It's got mirrors on the ceiling and free porn on the TV!) :D
There is a Days Inn in the Lincoln Park (different from Lincoln Village) neighborhood. Very nice, clean, safe upscale neighborhood. It's right on the triple intersection of Diversey, Clark and Broadway. There is movie theater/shopping mall next door. Across Clark street there is a Borders and across Diversey there is a Barnes and Noble and there are a million stores in the neighborhood. Not too pricey. You guys can also walk three or four blocks right down Diversey to the lake. Right up Clark street is one of my favorite bars called Jake's Pub. You guys should stop in. They are open on Sunday nights. Nice quiet neighborhood bar.
Have fun.

My favorite hotel is the Burnham. It's in the loop, it's small and old, it's been beautifully restored, the linens are soft, and they serve free wine at 5 p.m. in the lobby. But it's about $200 a night, it's often full, sometimes you have to book more than one night, and you will have to pay a lot to park your car (the easiest way is to valet park at the hotel).
My budget option when I go there just for one night to see a concert, crash, and see a bit of the city before driving home is Best Western River North (http://bestwestern.worldexecutive.com/directory/usa/chicago/hotels/14112.html) which is about $129 a night, and they have free parking under the building. It's a few blocks west of the big street with all the shopping (I can't believe it's slipping my mind). It's a good hotel if you're dashing in and out of town and want to hit some sights fast. It's not posh. Make sure to reserve a non smoking room if you're not a smoker.
If you would rather see the Museum of Science and Industry or the Field Museum there is another cheap hotel with free parking near them but I can't remember its name.
