I saw the Undertones a couple of days back

But as I type this, it was the Buzzcocks who did that song, wasn't it. I'm confused today. I know Peel had a boner for the Undertones though...

Which bad has done it officially?

It's a Buzzcocks song.

Peel's thing with the Undertones was that he reckoned "Teenage Kicks" was just about as perfect a pop/rock song as has ever existed. Who's to say he's wrong?

john peel was a great man, no doubt. but all this "john peel day" stuff is ridiculous and totally not in keeping with the guy. he would surely hate all this fuss.

Oh I don't know. It's my understanding that the idea is to create a day where relatively small, unknown bands are showcased on radio and in higher-profile venues, to give them a little boost of exposure. What could be more 'in keeping with the guy' than that?

John Peel day should involve ditching the shit playlist on Radio 1 for 24 hours rather than dragging the likes of New Order out for the millionth time to piss on their heritage.

Peel would rather the day be filled with non-stop FALL tracks I bet

With Feargal and all? How was it?

The Undertones had the best idea going then and probably now. Everytime I hear them get excited about Norman, Chocolate, Teenagers or Perfect Cousins I remember why starting a dance band makes sense.

I don't know their names and who/what was the original line up. I'm useless with info like that. But they I see them at least twice a year generally and they are always quality! If they ever play round you or anyone, I'd see them.
