Often computers are not the same after you format the drive. I always think you are better buying a new hard drive and your old, then format and use to keep mp3's or something specific on it...

I dont think you gotta buy another HD only because you have formatted it. Actually its recommended having 2 HD's. One you use to install your OS and the other to keep your shit as mp3, videos, films, photos, etc

I'm not saying you HAVE TO BUY A NEW HD, I was saying cus they are so cheap, it's often better to buy a new one and have the formatted one as something else cus formatted drives are often not the same (or that is what I've found). Not totally get rid. In fact we are both saying the same thing here...

Another plus, if you have a seperate drive with mp3 etc on, then you can take it out to mates houses and copy their shit and they can copy your shit at speed and for free (y)

I agree with you. But why a formatted HD is not the same? What have you experienced after formating your HD? I mean, what problems you observed?

Doesn't your hard drive only get damaged from formatting (ie lost sectors or whatever) if you... say...turn the computer off halfway through formatting? I mean I know one guy who used to format his hard drive monthly and he never had problems.

When I had windows, I found that when you are degragging or something, it'll mix up files more than windows chooses to do anyway. Or maybe thats fucking Mirco$oft!

Another thing I've found, that since I've run two hard drives things won't get mixed up and if one file dies, it won't take all of them with them. So it's just good to have two anyway...

I suppose if you did your hard drive monthly you wouldn't have time to let problems develop at all rather than just developing quicker after formatting.

ANYWAY, formatting is still a million times a million brazilian trillion better than having a virus that won't fuck off...
