on page 11 in uk magazine nme today adrock is interviewed about solid gold hits and says they are working on a new album at the moment.which is quite a shock for them,it could be out late 2006 at a guess.I did'nt buy the magazine so don't ask for scans.

Hmmm I doubt this is true but if it is then AWSOME. And if it were another album it will be something like "aglio e olio" like I doubt they are working on a NEW FULL album. Why doesn't this kind of news get let out in magazines an shit, but not on the actually Bboys website ? Adrock sure is keep busy with music, but what about Mike and Yauch, where they at ? Especially Mike ? We know Yauch is making donuts and playing xbox, but Mike, where you at ?

I'll take this as good news. Activity in the studio is a good thing.
But...I remember MMM talking beats hatching and shit 3 or 4 years before TT5B came out.
Some scan this article and post it!!!

at the end of the recent news segment on mtv the announcer said they were working on a new album but its in the very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, early, early, early, early, early, early stages.
which means this
Adam H.: want to work on a new album?
Mike D: I guess so, but I have to buy some spinach first. What do you think Adam?
Adam Y: yeah why not,, or we can play some basketball.
all 3 : good idea.... (the idea of a new album now gets lost somewhere and wont be brought back up for another year)

I found this on NME site
Beastie Boys: "We wanted to join the ranks of Elton John"
New Yorkers ready career-spanning greatest hits
The Beastie Boys are set to release a new best of compilation - and unlike previous collections this one is unashamedly the trio's "greatest hits".
'Solid Gold Hits' charts the band's career from the teenage angst of tracks like '(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)', to the more politically charged recent material like 'An Open Letter To NYC'.
Despite their own website suggesting the band are marking their 24th year together with the album which is released on November 7, Adrock told NME.COM it's more about cementing the band's status.
"Twenty-four would be a strange number, 25 would make sense," he declared, adding envy was the true motivation behind the collection. "We wanted to join the ranks of Elton John, Steve Miller, Kenny Loggins, Cher. We figured it was about time for us to be with them."
However when not coveting John's wealth and friendship with David Beckham, the Beastie Boys confirmed that they have begun working on a follow-up up to 2004's 'To The 5 Boroughs', though don't expect the band to beat the five years plus it usually takes them to produce a record.
"We have so much already done," explained Mike D of the sessions that are taking place in New York. "It's just not realised. The conception stage is one 100 per cent done, finished, put to bed. To actually realise that is a little different..."
'Solid Gold Hits' is released on November 7.

I still think "Beastie's Working On A New Album" should be news that goes to the Beastie Boys site FIRST.

What would they put on the page?
"Beastie Boys working on new album!
They have started recording a new album... that's it"
Anyways, good news. I think they have the itch early this time, probably in 2 years we'll see another album.

No more like "Beasties in the VERY early stage of a new album."

I agree because there was extra material from the TT5B's sessions that did not make the 'cut'. If they re-work that material and add some new stuff they could easily have a polished album for release by June 2007. Since the industry these days has changed so much with technology and fan expectations the Beasties will likely step up their output. Not necesssarily to please the fans per se but more to show they are still actively in the game and up to date with the latest time-saving gadgets.
It was funy I thought Hello Nasty was too long back in 1998 and TT5B was too short last year. Now I would take a Hello Nasty length this time around, I know the boys have it in them. I wonder if they will continue to work with Duro or perhaps move on. Dan Snaith (aka Manitoba, Caribou) would be a great producer for them to collaborate with on the next LP.
Here is an interview with Snaith if you do not know who he is:

haha I'm loving the pessimism in general here, I think this is great news! I'm seriously expecting a late 2006/early 2007 release. I knew the Oscilloscope stuff was leading up to something. This is so cool :D

Just with that, it probably depends on what direction they go in music wise. Without digressing into TT5B too much it's fair to say its a consistent hip hop record throughout, beats and raps. I think it's length is suited, whereas with say Hello Nasty or any of the 90's records, the diversity going on means they can stretch it out over say 20 tracks. I think the 22 tracks on Hello Nasty represent and justify what they're doing at the time, and the 15 on TT5b do too.

definitely true ^ I have to say, I reckon the lengths of the albums have been perfectly suited to the style of music throughout.

I like the idea. However, this argument will hinge a bit on the average length of a hip hop album (I do not know the stats). Old school hip hop LP's may have been shorter than more modern stuff (?) which contains long skits, remixes, bonus tracks etc. Regardless here is an article on CD lengths over the 'ages'. It is somewhat funny / interesting.

So I got a theory...
Whilst in the studio slaving away for many years the Beastie Boys came up with a jillion beats and ditties. They decided to pluck all the more hip-hop sounds to compile TT5B. Plenty of other tracks are probably lying about all piecemeal and they need to tighten the bolts on them suckas and voila'... release another album. The B side... 'And Then I' comes to mind... that track sure didn't have any of the same feel as others of late. Obviously there were other influences than old skool around. Why the forming of Oscilloscope? I have such a good feeling about this. :D
