Well, I live in the wonderful Cape Breton Regional Municipality, in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. If you like nature hikes and beautiful scenery of the forest kind, Cape Breton is the place to go. My neighborhood is upper-middle class, consisting of loooooong streets built like traditional suburban city blocks. The only downfall is the fact that I live on a hill that's murder to hike up. My home is tall, but not very wide. Well decorated too, you can tell a traditional family unit lives there. Lots of burgundy/green/tan. The neighborhood was great to grow up in, lots of kids my age to hang out with, even my first crush lived like two streets over :o .
Despite having the Sydney Tar Ponds, one of the most toxic waste sites in the planet, the city is actually pretty clean and very basic. You learn to appreciate the cuteness of it all. Great place to raise kids.

Umm, I live in Gaithersburg, Maryland in the U.S., which is a 15 minute drive from D.C. and considered to be in the "slow and painful" death zone for nuclear material. It's also the county where the 2002 Maryland Snipers were. And the forest around the corner from me is where Blair Witch was filmed. I think I say that in my location.
Anyways, I live in one of the richest counties in America, and they're a bunch of fucking stuck-up yuppies who want to call Gaithersburg "North Potomac" because it sounds more upscale. My town just tries to be like the rich, Jewish town next to us (Potomac), when in reality, you need at least 7 digits to live in Potomac.
I guess there's a good amount to do here, the driving sucks, and I hate having a car because it reminds me everyday of how many retards there are in the world and I shouldn't be so cynical, seeing as how I'm only 22.
And I've lived here all my freakin' life, and my parents lived here majority of their life, and up until 10 years ago it was a nice, semi-large town. Now all the fucking yuppies from Jersey and NY and big cities have moved here with their gas guzzlers, and always yap on their cell phones when checking out of anywhere. There needs to be a law passed that anyone who moved here later than 1994 should be loaded into a cannon and shot back to Jersey.
Um yeah.

hmm, well, hobart is one of the most isolated cities in the world. middle of fucking nowhere. we have two seasons: fucking cold, and not as fucking cold.
there's a lot of people on the dole here. the rent is high and there are no jobs. there aren't any really wealthy people.
every time you leave the house, you see a couple of people you know. it makes you feel like you have lots of friends
but it's my home and i actually kinda do like it here :)

well from what i can remember the creator or someone very important to the tv show grew up in one of the neighboring towns. but the city depicted in the show resembles my city in now way at all. springfield is also the most common city/town name in all of the US. and im pretty sure my springfield was the first. it's a very old and historic city.

they'll never say and quite honestly i don't think they even know. the evidence, if you're lame enough to compile it, contradicts itself a lot. it's one of the show's running gags, i think, it's not a whole lot deeper than that.
my hometown, where my (parents') house is, is southington, connecticut, which is a really boring town. not that I mind boring. it's a suburb, there's a walmart and 3 subways, it's a good place to raise kids. it's not very diverse, to say the least. my high school had 2000 kids when i left it (2200 the year after that), and there were maybe 5 black kids. i think there was one black teacher too, but i'm not positive
the town i'm currently in, storrs connecticut, is slightly lamer than that. the whole area is basically farmland as far as the eye can see, interrupted briefly by my college campus, which is surprisingly lively. not as happening as city colleges, but still not bad. it was recently ranked the safest place in the country to live, in terms of safety from natural disasters. the worst we get here is blizzards, and aside from having to shovel until your back breaks, it's not too dangerous. just drive slow, or better yet, not at all. it's not as bad as say, vermont, or canada, or the north pole.

we are just a cluster of communities. the suburbs. lovely middle class america. i have a safeway just down the street where i get discounted gas cause im a club member. we have a liquor store, but if i want VA wine i can just drive down the road to the nearby vineyards in Broad Run. there is some nice driving small roads and good scenery for motorcycling.
its a nice community.
and then there is manassas, which is the closest "city" where i grew up with a crap mall and lots of latinos. its fun there though..and there are some good eats if you know where to go.

Where I'm from and where my Mom lives is Port Clinton Ohio. It's a rather small town that borders lake Erie. Lake Erie in fact is the main attraction of my hometown being that it's the walleye capitol of the world. In the summer, the place is just a huge tourist attraction but in the winter it dies down and there are only locals here.
If you want to fish, there's many secluded places you can go. Many times, my buddies and I will camp out on the lake and eat what we catch. We have bon fires on the lake and usually bring a keg and just booze out for a couple days.
Almost everybody knows everybody here so it's not to hard to figure your friends from the bad cats in the area.
It's not too far from Bowling State university or Cleveland or even Colombus so, if you get tired of the small town life just get in a car and drive for a half hour and you can have a good time.
When all is said and done, this place is where I'm gonna rest my head
Oh yeah, Put in Bay which happens to be one of the best places to party during your summer vacation is easily accesible by either a boat or plane which takes about 15 minutes to get there. It's been compared to Mardi Gras and I've been to both and of course, I prefer Put in Bay just cause.

I hail from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
That's the capital city of Alberta and has recently reached the population of 1 million. I've lived here my whole life and it's a great town, even if it could use some more pizazz and a much better public transit system.
Edmonton is known as having the world's largest shopping mall (West Edmonton Mall, and yes, it's bigger than the Mall of America), which everyone from out of town visits and loves and people who live here mostly can't stand it.
Though Alberta is known as the Texas of Canada (i.e. lots of oil, cattle, cowboys, conservatism, etc.), Edmonton is most certainly the Austin, Texas of Canada (i.e. liberal town surrounded in the middle of a province filled with rednecks).
Our sports teams are the Edmonton Oilers (NHL) and the Edmonton Eskimos (CFL) and at one point our hockey team owned all (thanks to the likes of Wayne Gretzky, Marc Messier, etc. but that was the 1980s).
Besides the fucking shopping mall, we're known for our plethora of summer festivals, a very beautiful river valley, Fort Edmonton Park (where Brad Pitt filmed some scenes for his Jesse James movie just recently, which drew out a lot of paparazzi) and Whyte Avenue (that's the place to get drunk and incite riots, increasing the already big police presence).
I myself live just two blocks from the University of Alberta, which makes things mighty convenient for me. :)
Famous people from Edmonton include Michael J. Fox, Thomas Chong, Robert Goulet, Leslie Nielsen, Nathan Fillion and some others.
Unfortunately, Nickelback grew up in a small butt-fucked town only a few hours from Edmonton, so THAT makes me angry.

I live in the Levern Valley situated just about half way between Glasgow and the coast - twenty minutes train journey into the city, half an hour's drive to the sea.
I live roughly 90 miles from the English border.
The town I live in doesn't have the old character that a lot of towns and villages further out from the city have, but it does have lots of beautiful countryside and as we are nestled in the mouth of the valley and are surrounded on the south, east and west by hills we have stunning views.
If you stand in the right place here you can see the sea, the mountains of Arran, the peak of Ben Lomond and the city of Glasgow and the town of Paisley all laid out in front of you.
The town where I live and the neighbouring village, where I was brought up, were built on sheep and cattle farming and the textile industry - the latter which followed the course of the Levern Burn (burn is a Scottish word for river or stream). Other industries include leather works but most of that has died out now.
We are officially a deprived area but like most places in Scotland - better off areas stand side by side with deprived areas and there are parts of the town that are scenic, beautiful and filled with character.
Many of the people who live around here have no idea how beautiful some of the local area is and somehow prefer to focus on the crappier aspects.
In the neighbouring village there is a woman who is trying to make a difference to people's attitudes. She has started a group called Neilston: Space to Live.
She started a music festival Neilston Live (http://www.neilstonlive.co.uk/)
There's probably more I could add but it would be dull.

it's your average middle class english town. we used to be famous for beer, bricks and biscuits. not so much anymore. the major pastimes of the residents seem to be binge drinking, riding small motorbikes, buying and selling property and shopping. we have no decent music venues and two decent bars. on the plus side, london is only a half hour train journey away, so it doesnt really matter that reading is shit.

Lausanne, Switzerland.
One of the largest cities in this country, but rather a small one compared to other countries's megalopolis. About 120'000 inhabitants, located on the shores of the Leman (geneva) Lake. The city lays on hills, and the lake is at 343 meters above sea level and the heights of the cities at about 600 m a.s.l. There is an old center from the middle-ages, with a really beatiful 13th century cathedral.
You'll find everything you need for spare time and fun, cinemas, bars, theatres, museums and Lausanne is the Olympic capital.
The population is quite multicultural, with up to 38% of foreigners.
The Alps are near, so you can esily go walking there in the summer and skiing in winter.
Overall a nice and quite place to live, small enough to stay at human level and big enough to have everything you really need. And the scenery with a view on the lake and the Alps is really great :)

I live in Lismore. Its on the far north coast of New South Wales. I really like living here cause its close to everything I want. There' awesome world heritage (CERRA) rainforest if I want to go walking and there's top notch waves at the beaches for the surfing. You can get cheap organic vegies, good weed, and all sorts of people from hippies to bogans. Lismore's got around 30,000 people. There's a large aboriginal population here as well as a massive gay and lesbian population, too.
Its quite near Byron Bay and Nimbin, even the Gold Coast if you're into that kind of thing. The markets on the weekend are shithot, even better if you can find the hash cookie lady. You can get everything from vegies to clothing. Once a year we have a lantern festival where people make these fantastic lanterns to parade through the streets ending with a huge production where the set gets burned to the ground at the end.
The sun shines a lot, its very relaxed. We've got good friends, a nice house and a pretty decent lifestyle. I recommend it.

Relative large amount of 25-39 year olds, people that came to Amsterdam to study or look for a job
Partially because of that there are relatively many people living alone
Few families with kids
Partially because of that there are relatively few 0-19 year olds
The number of over 65 is relatively low and is going down even further
Large number of ethnic minorities (37%)
People of 173 different nationalities live in Amsterdam
The land of legalised drugs and prostitution yet relatively few people who live here actually make use of the facilities.
Tons of great museums, a historic (proper) football team (that has been a bit icky lately) and an american football team that after years of underachievement has actually won something last year if I'm not mistaking.
I live just outside the city center near the west docks. I really like it here, it's quiet, I have water on both sides of my house and I can walk to the central station in twenty minutes (5-10 minutes by bike).
One thing that bugs me is that you can hardly get a drink or a decent bite to eat in this city after three am.

One thing that bugs me is that you can hardly get a drink or a decent bite to eat in this city after three am.
Amsterdam is a city I can quite happily spend days walking around. (y)

hmm, well, hobart is one of the most isolated cities in the world. middle of fucking nowhere. we have two seasons: fucking cold, and not as fucking cold.
um hi isolation?? that's us in perth. after honolulu, perth is the most isolated city in the world.
don't listen to those who bag it.
ok it sucks that we don't get major concerts and stuff. but that's about it. there's heaps to do as long as you look for it. oh and it sucks that it costs a lot of money to travel ANYWHERE.
basically its a small city of i dunno, 1.5 million? i don't pay much attention to anything that happens any further than 20 minutes out of the city centre. i work and live 10 minutes from the city (which is like 2 blocks of buildings lol). beach is 15 minutes away but i am not a big fan of the beach. apparently we get bluer skies than most other cities and we can see a lot more stars (no pollution)
we have a laughable list of perth "celebrities" that mainly consist of football (not soccer, but aussie rules) players and drug dealers.
it never gets any colder than like 2 degrees (that's close to freezing point - 0 degrees for those who speak in fareinheit) and gets really hot and dry in summer (lots of water restrictions, lots of days around the mid 30s and a few in the low 40s)
um i don't know what else to say. we have a high asian population. also lots of south africans. very multicultural city. although the population is ageing and that kinda sucks, it means all the shops are shut every night from like 5.30 or 6 and only some can open on sunday. the city is DEAD after 6pm and the part with the nightclubs and stuff is kinda dirty, dangerous and gross.

I was going to brag up Seattle, but you know, I spent a week in Amsterdam and I've got nothing. Your town is better.
It rains here a lot in Seattle and people are bookish and sullen. We have food and grunge music. The best part of Seattle is it's obvious we cannot stand Bush and his idea of the Republican Party...that shit doesn't sell in Seattle at all.

London, England
Its alright I supose
there is lots to do, I don't really do much of it, but hey.
lots of free museums, and the fucking aquarium, dude, I love that place. hundreds of gigs to go to, thats always a selling point.
central London is very nice to look at, the crowds can be annoying, but there are shit loads of shops and street performers to entertain you, or to just laugh at.
If you are a tourist, you'd have shit loads to do, and will have plenty of oportunity to spend lots of money.
my borough (Greenwich) is nice, in places.
there are lots of landmarks to look at, but that gets a bit boring sometimes.
the transport system is good (except maybe national rail)
the people are polite most of the time.
oooh and bargain book shops, they kick arse.
there are quite alot of chav's riding around on little motor powered bikes, thats annoying.
kids tend to have nothing to do so they just hang around the streets shouting abuse at people.
my town is a huge mucus filled spot on Greenwich's face.
there are a few "gangsters", huge men who take muscle suplements everyday and hang around discussing cars while flashing money.
the shopping area of my town is small and doesn't contain much of interest.
but there are plenty of dodgy dvd sellers!
I think this is the most I've ever written in one post.

Coventry, England.
If you're into WWII history and stuff, it's a pretty cool place to visit, because we used to make the ammunitons which made us an obvious target during the blitz.
Here is Churchill after the Cathedral was bombed. (http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/churchill/images/wc0106-3a18421r.jpg)
How it stands today. (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robert.orland/cov/photos/oldcathedral.jpg)
The cathedral is pretty nice to sit in for lunch, you're all in awe looking up at this roofless building....
Anyway, going back to industry, we're responsible for THE BLACK CAB! (http://www.bized.ac.uk/images/cab_old.jpg) We have a big motor museum too, which is free to us Coventarians, so my skanky primary school used to have trips there every year.
I don't think the education is all that great here, probably because the council spend too much on flowers. It's an okay city, and I don't mind staying put until uni. :)

Oh yeah, and we're the Chav capital, Chaventry. Also 5th ugliest city, architecture wise, not because of the chavs.
Alright I'm done.

Are you sure it isn't because of the chavs? Buildings tend to become very ugly if there are burbery clad youngsters leaning on them or sitting on their stairs.

Thinking about it, the chavs are like periwinkles in that they stick where they are most likely to thrive. Soooo, that's going to be every off-licence in the city that stocks alcopops.

you've never heard of the town I live in. nobody has really. you might have heard of Santa Rosa though, which is one of the largest cities north of the golden gate. Well my town is about 8 miles from that, so when I'm speaking to people that aren't familiar with Northern California I usually just say I'm from Santa Rosa.
Some movies have been filmed here: Peggy Sue Got Married, and the first Scream movie. there are many others but those two are the first that came to mind. Winnona Ryder went to highschool with my boyfriend back in the day.
Charles Shutlz the snoopy cartoonist is one of the most famous residents that we have had. He built an ice area here for his children and the community many years ago. Several years ago, after he died ,they opened up a snoopy/shultz museum next to the ice area.
there is lots of countryside (cows, vinyards, etc.) and were about 20 minutes from the ocean.
this is wine country so most people that come her come for that reason and not a whole lot else. Nightlife in Santa Rosa and surrounding areas pretty much sucks so everyone drives to the "city" (san Fran) for entertainment.
I like to go for hikes in the redwoods.

Lowton, Greater Manchester, England, UK, Your Mom's House.
Part of the great string of towns that snake between Liverpool on the coast, and Manchester in the east, tucked into the Pennines, the main group of hills that run down the middle of Britain.
It's less of a town and more of a series of roads connecting eveywhere else. It stretches for a good 3 or 4 miles in either direction and is very suburban. Small housing estates branch off the main roads and some back onto farmland and in some cases, The Flash - the second biggest non-man made isolated lake in England (or something).
It's the heart of the industrial revolution, surrounded by railways, canals, and a few large daunting mills that have found another use in the new century. The Spinning Jenny (the machine that kick started the cotton industry) was produced a mile or two away in nearby Leigh, possibly the largest town in Britain without a railway, and the first passenger railway in the world (Liverpool-Manchester) runs past a few fields away. The first ever passenger railway death in the world occurred there too, just a short walk down the tracks.
There isn't much to do if you don't visit either of the cities, and public transport is limited and often finishes at 11pm, meaning taxis home over a distance of often 25 miles. Even when the buses run on time, they usually don't go anywhere near where they're needed. A large percentage of the teenage population confine themselves to working in ASDA for the rest of their lives and choose to spend their schooldays wagging school and asking for cigs while scrawling on street furniture with a magic marker.

Yeah I wish I lived in Lismore/Byron bay. Best place to live in the world just about. Melbourne may be to most "liveable" city, but it just doesnt have the weather, beaches or forrests. I mean unless you wanna go all the way to lorne or something, and even there the weather is shit except for like 4 weeks in summer.

I recommend it.
holy shit, someone actually lives within 1000km's of my house here
Brisbane's ok, pretty shit compared to the rest of queensland for tourists. outside of brisbane there's a couple of hundred km's of beaches each way, yet none in Brisbane so the government decided to build one in the middle of the city
famous people, mick doohan and greg norman are prolly the big 2, and they actually went to the same high school, geoffery rush is from here. dont know if the bee gee's just lived here for a bit or were born here
i'm from kedron which is less than 10 mins from the CBD. it's a fairly spaced out city with a little over 2 million people i think, and is catching up to melbourne day by day coz south east queensland is one of the fastest growing area's in the world population (the gold coast will prolly be part of brisbane in the next 20 years)
nightlife's good, go to the valley for decent music and where what you want, go to the city if you wanna listen to top 40 shit and dress like a metro sexual wanker.
All in all, brisbane aint that great, but drive an hour in any direction and there's some of the best places to visit in australia. Queensland, beautiful one day, perfect the next.......... except in brisbane :p
Sayville, NY, USA
An upper-middle class town on the south shore of Long Island. A town where the average house goes for over five and a half hundred thousand dollars.
It is a lot like "Saved by the Bell" here ,at least when I was in High School and come to think, it is a lot like that out of High School. I live very close to the beach (about a mile) and rarely go.

Minneapolis, Minnesota: The Dakota Indians were living their lives and met Father Hennepin who failed to convert them but he did see the falls and named them St. Anthony after his patron saint. The French lost the French and Indian war and Jefferson bought some land. The Dakota Indians weren't doing so well because white man killed off a lot of the animals they depended upon and so the Indian leaders sold a fort and a lot of other land to white men in order to try and keep their people from starving. The Dakota Indians had it so bad that eventually they rose up but they were defeated by the US army. Some of the captured Indian leaders were executed at the fort but still more received the greater punishment of being sent to Iowa. The white men kept at it until the census revealed only 27 Dakota Indians in Minneapolis in 1910 (thankfully they made a comeback). Minneapolis was almost St. Anthony, but having gotten rid of almost all of the actual Indians, the white man saluted them by naming lots of streets, cities, and counties using their language, including Minneapolis, which means "city of waters."

London, England
... the fucking aquarium, dude....
Jeez I never knew there was an aquarium in London, and I've been there dozens of times! Heck I even lived there for 2½ years!
I live in the southern suburb of Stockholm called Hökarängen (roughly translated Grocer's Field).
It was mainly built in the late 40's - early 50's. When they built the subway system it was the last stop, opening on the 1st of October 1950. The center has Sweden's first pedestrian street. The iron mongers there has the most amazing stuff, they still have really old stuff in their storage. Loads of rockabilly people live here trying to "keep things real".
It only takes 17 minutes on the subway to get to the city where everything happens. Public transport is very good in Stockholm, you can get home any time of night. The subway runs until 00.30 or 2.00 on weekends and then there's nightbusses twice an hour until the subway starts to run again at around 5.30-6.00.
Even tho I live close to the city it's also close to the country. There's two really good swimming beaches 1-2 kilometers away, 500 meters to the stables, loads of small forests with blueberries and wild mushrooms and wildlife. If you wanna see the real countryside with cows and stuff you can catch some only 15-30 min bus ride away.
