That was the best 5 post exchange ever. Bravo, gentlemen.

And on that note, you are both wrong.

Boy; I dunno.

Narrowed down to one?

I dunno.

Career Opportunities needs definite consideration.

Maybe Stay Free?

I dunno.

You could probably make a great case for The Call Up.

Train In Vain, Guns Of Brixton, Clash City Rockers, Complete Control and I Fought The Law would be my top 5.....this week, anyway.

I Fought The Law

Hmmm.... I was thinking of "by the Clash" as a song also written by them (or Strummer/Jones, anyway).

If authorship is thrown out the window, this might very well be the one.

Agreed.

Amazing.

They were going for a Phil Spector feel on The Card Cheat. They achieved the wall of sound effect by multi-tracking most of the instruments. There was a second drum track played on top of the first, a second track of piano, and so forth. I'm sure you guys already knew, but yeah..

Train In Vain

London Calling, Clash City Rockers, Train in Vain, White Man in Hammersmith Palais, White Riot

In that order

Why isn't this a poll?

It's gotta be "(White Man In) Hammersmith Palais"

In terms of cover versions, they've done amazing covers, but I got a soft spot for their cover of "Every Little Bit Hurts" (it's an old R&B song, I'm not familiar with the original). It's a previously unreleased track found on the "Clash on Broadway" set. (y)

Brenda Holloway did the original, and it's much better than the Clash version in my opinion.

I really dig "Gates of the West," too.

When I had the first album (the US version), it came as a 45 packaged with the record. "Gates of the West" b/w "Groovy Times" (a nice throwaway). (y) (y)

Cool people never admit that they listen to Combat Rock!

Rock the Casbah was my favorite video when it came out. You didn't see many bands wearing boots on MTV back then.

Ok, you went a bit too far now.

Rock The Casbah is right up there with the other great Clash tunes.

To me, Combat Rock was like Sandinista shrunk down to one record.

I loved Sandista, but in minature form, it's really, really weak.

To my credit, I never heard Cut the Crap.

Or Velvet Underground's Squeeze. Heh.

I've actually been considering getting "Cut The Crap" for quite awhile. Not because I'll enjoy it, but only so I can say that I have a complete Clash collection. ;)

Awwww..... you're not that close to having the complete collection.

Let's see your "Radio Clash" 12" single.

Your Black Market Clash 10" mini-LP AND the 12" version.

C'mon. Prove me wrong. (y)

Oh shut it. I've got a complete enough collection via the CD editions (i.e. "Super Black Market Clash" in lieu of those original "Black Market" releases). :D

You're not much of a completist afterall, are you?

Well, it's got Capitol Radio One, which is much better than Capitol Radio Two. And yeah, the song's available on Clash On Broadway. But that's not really the point, is it?

I'm more completist in the sense of "do I have all their songs?" rather than trying to get every single release (which would mean getting some of the same songs many times over... which I try to minimize... somewhat).

And I do have both versions of "Capital Radio," so I'd prefer to spend my time getting some music I've never heard before.
