I remember treating my first Beastie Boy CDs like precious artifacts. Apparently it still didn't work because for whatever the reason they got messed up. I mean the CDs themseleves aren't cracked or scratched, thank GOD, but the CD cases on some of my albums are cracked, especially on some rare singles I have like the RootDown single or the Body Movin' single.
It seems like ever since Hello Nasty came out, the Beastie Boys have been making their CD albums out of cardboard and I've noticed they've been doing a lot of vinyl.
Is anyone else as appreciative of the Beastie Boys getting rid of those cheap ass plastic CD covers than I?

Every single fuckin cd that I own has a crack in it! And most of my cds is all scratched up, and I don't know how they got like that, but they work fine and none of the songs skip or anything so... But my hello nasty cd cover is cracked sort of and somehow honey got on my sounds of science cover. TT5B is fine though. :o But I do like the cardboard. (y)

ever since ive got the computer, MP3z.....then the !pod......its like i transfer them into the !pod and put the MASTERS away....this helps , especially when youve bought LTI, CTH, IC, PB...countless times over on tapes and CD.
I would love to hear that stuff on VINYL....the only one i have is LTI.
PURE HIP-HOP and what it was meant to be!! AS all the LPs the BEASTIES had produced, within the past 20years.
dang whatta you know......SHES on IT just came on the ole !pod!!

God yes. Jesus. I hate those damn plastic covers. All of my covers are scratched, except the cover for Root Down, which somehow has avoided damage- so far. Many are cracked; many I can't open properly, the front just comes clean off.
Besides, the cardboard ones just look better. The plastic ones look stupid. I think it's a good step aesthetically- which is important to me, as, for some reason, if an album has a nice cover I will immediately like the album a little more, and will listen optimistically. Like books. If a book has a bad cover I'll be reluctant to read it.
Vinyl is even better aesthetically, though, because it's so big. I buy vinyl for that reason alone.

the cardboard ones are great, but the corners of the cd get damaged easily if you're not careful. But jewel cases are just so boring now, and easy break, cardboard is the way to go.

I've been a fan of the boys sense i was little, but I've never been able to find the time to buy their cd's or even find their cd's, but I FINALLY found a jackpot of their cd's at one store and I've been protecting them sense, and I stepped off of my bed and heard a cd crack really loud, luckily it was only my t.A.T.u. cd or something, i've found that i've become primative in my protection of their cd's, so i'm very glad they did the cardboard on Hello Nasty and TT5B.
oh, just a quick question, you mention the vinyl thing, i've been wanting to experiment with some of their vinyl's but i can't remember where i saw some to buy, if you could link me up in a PM or something, it would be greatly appreciated.

I prefer the cardboard cd covers they're easier to take care of. The plastic ones always get cracks in them. Not to mention it's hell getting the stickers off the plastic cd covers.
I'm not so sure the cardboards (are they officially called "digipack"??) are easier to take care of.. With the regular jewel cases you can at least replace them for pennies should they ever crack. Take out the paper & cd and pop 'em in another jewel case. Easy peesy. With the cardboard, if the plastic (which physically holds the cd) cracks or breaks - you're fucked. I had to buy my Hello Nasty all over again because the cd did not stay in the little holder part because it broke. I hated it.
I baby my collection now. Won't take the cases in the car anymore, forget putting 'em in the backpack, etc...ha, ha.
All this being said, I much prefer the way the cardboard ones look and feel, too. Hell, Yauch got a Grammy Nomination for the cardboard cd packaging of TT5B!!! I agreed with the nom - it's an awesome look/feel.
