what does a picture of bush playing golf have to do with the money given to hurricane victims that was supposed to help them being wasted on booze and strippers?
are you saying we shouldnt have given out the money?

what should they do with what little money they have valvano?

save it for the essentials......
i guess you would argue "piss it away and then come back screaming for more?"
maybe the reason they had so little money, both before and after the hurricane, was this exact same reason? these arent poor little homeless puppies waiting to be taken care of, these are adults who need to learn the meaning of personal responsibility instead of waiting for the next govt giveaway...financed with yours and mine tax monies....of which certain politicians continue to feel that we do not pay enough off!!

I thought this thread was about the misuse of government funding, I thought Bush playing golf would be a nice example.
The page won't load for me so I can't comment on the article. Sorry.

The difference is that he played more golf during his terms than Tiger Woods did during that time.

You still failed to answer my question... Save it for what essentials? They're living on a Military Base and probablly bored to tears. Granted booze and strippers isn't the best idea, but what's more disturbing is that some newspaper photographer spent a day researching the shopping habits of everyone who got off the bus for the day in town from the base.
I think the $2,000 atm card was a silly idea. What was needed was something that was done in Northern California after the '97 floods. Get groups like the Salvation Army involved that helped people secure apartments and actual housing sollutions. Then hire those same people for the clean up and rebuild effort. The wages from that would allow them to maintain their living arangements. Then they could go get booze and strippers off the same money but would be keeping themselves busy with work every day too.

assuming you are a fed income tax payor, don't you want to know if fed funds being sent to help out hurricane victims are being properly used by those in need vs. wasted on booze, strippers, etc? i dont care if they are bored, its better than being back in new orleans sitting among that mess...
what do you want next, maybe by each one an ipod to kill the time while they wait for the next govt check to come in??

Indirectly, actually it is. Slavery and oppression have made them poor. The poor are the most susceptible people in a society to a range of vices, and the latter two are endemic.
Ergo, slavery has made them spend money on booze and strippers.
And, quite frankly, if *I* had been oppressed my whole life, and my entire life had been washed away due to economic segregation, I know *I'd* be buying shitloads of booze too.

Again, you're avoiding answering the question... They're living on a Military Base with all their basic needs being covered, what exactly do you think they should be spending or saving that $2,000 for?

sounds to me like you are arguing they should have never been given the $2000 in the first place since all their basic needs are being covered

You're not very bright are you? That's exactly what I said several posts ago...
No amount of smileys will make your posts go from short sighted to satirical by the way. And you still haven't answered the god damned question.

Personally I would have gone with a hooker, actualy with 2 stacks.. multiple hookers. Completly untraceable... But really what would be on your mind at that time, oh lets save these 2,000 to rebuild my entire house? Or do what you do when you're life has been completly destroyed, indulging in these vices. But people who need diabetic medicine for example sure aren't buying booze.. It was a stupid attempt by the government, and as always wrong time wrong place. Good job, last couple of months of news and government incompetence have made me especially sick.
