I don't love The Band, but I love the movie. It's one of the few DVDs where I listened to the commentary.

The opening theme is great bus music. :)

God bless you.

I wish their studio albums rocked a little harder, but, still, The Band is one of the greatest rock albums, period. On many days, it's my favorite album.

Among an album filled to the brim with astounding songs, "King Harvest (Has Surely Come)," and "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" are just perfect, perfect specimens.

I'm so glad for that version of "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" on The Last Waltz. Levon finally got to play and sing it angry.

A+.

Robbie Robertson, along with Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, kinda makes up for that whole Celine Dion thing, I hope.

yeah...in college, my many housemates (there was like 10 of us) went through a phase where this movie was being played 24-7...and the albums were on constant rotation...

i'd come home from class, walk into the living room...and into a cloud of marijuana smoke and robbie robertson...

i do dig them, though....

Robbie Robertson's enormous ego is a lot for me to stomach. What makes the movie for me is the bits with all the other guys in the band -- and the way the concert footage was lit and shot.

I don't know whether this is true or not, but I heard that when the movie was originally shown, you could see cocaine on Young's nose during his song. Young confirmed it in an interview and said he was embarrassed by it--he said that there was a lot of coke backstage and he had been up for days. I saw it at the theater many times at revival houses, and I have the DVD. I've never seen anything on his nose. :)

Robertson does jump in on other people's interviews quite a bit. That's annoying, however interesting he is.

Yeah -- during the editing, Scorsese supposedly asked Neil Young if Neil wanted him to pull the frames that showed coke on his nose. Neil said yes, so it went to the lab with the revealing shots cut.

How do you play "Helpless" on coke, anyway? Man, that was a great performance.

So it's true! It was The Last Waltz that really turned me on to Neil Young. Just that one song got me buying his other stuff.

What was up with Dylan's face? Did he do his own makeup? :p

I think that was right after the Rolling Thunder Revue, and he was all into that odd pancake makeup look.

I dunno. Clown prince of dance?

Me and my mate
Was back at the shack
We had Spike Jones on the box
She said, "I can't take the way he sang
"But I love to hear him talk."

Now, that just gave my heart a throb
To the bottom of my feet
And I swore as I took another poke
My Bessie can't be beat
