I'm known to get into it when I listen up to Ill Communication. But Hello Nasty and after just ain't the same. Although I will admit I was getting down to some Hello Nasty action this weekend after not listening to the cd in over 4 years (skipping A LOT of songs though).

I like their earlier, funnier stuff. Now they're all angsty and on their pseudo-Bergman trip. Pfft.

they just stumbled a little on the last album is all.
they went for old-school minimalist (which is bland to begin with)....and then got a little lazy with it.
i think they are just uninspired as of late...
they blew thier wad on Hello Nasty....
i am totally serious when i say that they need to start drinking more, throw some plastic into landfills, call a girl a bitch....and laugh at a mysoginistic joke.
they've just gotten TOO soft and insulated....and thier lyrics have really suffered.
being very rich celebrities...and having been so very most of thier lives...they try and talk about causes and issues that really never will affect their very rich, insulated lives.
i mean...Adrock chanting about health care inequalities just sounds hollow coming from him.

Wow, I was just talking to insertnamehere and said I put the beastie boys on fir the first time today since I saw them live earlier this year. It ain't the same as when I was a teenager, that is for sure.
As white hip hop goes, it's the best but I mainly like them cus Adrock is sooooooooo cute!
yes i am very big fan. their my number 1.

I don't really agree with this notion that you have to be personally affected by something, or suffering from something somehow to care about it and want to help. Having money doesn't inhibit one's ability to empathise. Are they supposed to think "Oh, my bank balance is really healthy, I should just shut up about everything that actually matters and talk about my designer gear and champagne."

yes, i really really do
still listen to them quite a bit
I dont think they lost it at all, i just think they went for a certain direction, something, lets be honest theyve done on every album (bar ill communication which was CYH p2). I like "To the 5 boroughs" myself.

okay. yes.
i of course appreciate ANY rapper talking about something other then cash, hoes and guns...
i guess i just wish they would do it more eloquently (thier lyrics on such subjects have been nothing short of generalized, generic liberal diatribe and sound bytes)...
still, though....it just sounds hollow to hear them bitch about things that will never affect them.
i guess that's WHY thier lyrics on such subjects ring so hollow.
i dunno...
shit...i guess i'm being hyprocritical....cause i also bitch if rappers or ANY celebrities only talk about "rich culture" and i always bitch that there needs to be more of a voice on important issues.
they are just at their best when they are being more whimsical and artistic...and not trying to rhyme "hysterica" with "america" when talking about war...

The b boys are still one of my favorites. I'm not all beastie general crazy for them anymore and I was never on this board when I was obsessed with them. I didn't even know what a message board was back then. ha.
I hardly ever listen to the boys anymore, but that doesn't mean I've lost my taste for them. There's just alot of music out there to explore and I've already explored the beastie boys completely.

i still adore them, and can't help but squeal when i see a picture of them or hear them on the radio, but i've sort of played them out for myself. i can't even listen to half of the albums because they're so...overdone for me. i'm way past the point of obsession.
and i hated the last album. listened to it about twice. it's a coaster for me now. but i still went to the tour, and you bet your ass i'll be buying the next album and going to the next tour in five years.

Amen. I think I even knew I wouldn't be too impressed with the new album but bought it anyways because it was a beatsie boys album. which i will do as long as they put out records (except for these compilation records).

I know. I should have maybe tried putting my query in the form of a simple question, I suppose.
I like TT5B. I don't mind the minamalist approach and I like old school beats, but they're not particulaly amazing beats or anything. And the rhyming is nowhere close to the caliber of the rapping on Paul's Boutique. I think in theory it was a very good idea to take the old school approach, but the execution could have been better. I'm just sayin, they kinda fell off a little.

Overall the Beasties have one of the coolest sounds anywhere. I listen to the a cappella page and just grin.
An open letter to NYC is great song with definate staying power.
Everything about the beasties is cool since you ask. The dust may have settled a bit on TT5B but the Boys are cool enough to keep the vibe going with the a cappella page.

And I agree with this part, it'd be more entertaining or something. More sex rhymes or something! The only one on TT5B was "I don't shoot lead, and I don't shoot blanks." OOOOOHHHH!!! I think. :D But I totally respect them for not only rhyming about bitches and money.

The Beasties are an aquired taste... at first I was hesitant to try it...
I started picking at them with my fork... Adrock was cursing me out...
I preceeded to smell my plate... they seemed pretty fresh to me...
I took my fork and took a little sample from all 3... I ate them up!!
They were so delicious, I had to have more...
But honestly, I'm getting a little full right now... think I'll try something else from the buffet
yes, i do like the beastie boys.

A valid one. A lot of the people on here aren't for the Beastie Boys, or are here because of friends who are on here. Or they used to like the Beastie Boys back in the day, and don't anymore, but still like the message board, etc.

I'm an embarrassing Beastie Boys fan. When I'm in the city and a B-Boys song comes on my headphones, and I'm wearing my B-Boys T-shirt, I can feel society's shame glaring down upon me.
I like TT5B, but I still think that if they wanted to work with somebody else on the beats, nobody would think any less of them. They wouldn't have to tour or even acknowledge the results if they wanted. It's been nearly 25 years, they should lighten up a little.
But whatever, I've been listening too long to stop. I even told a lovely person on the boards that I was sick of the Beasties, and proceeded to listen to all the albums in an attempt at atonement. :o
It's a shame that the last time I saw them, Open Letter and Right Right Now Now were the biggest downers of the evening. And perhaps they continue to alienate fans, perhaps they don't.
Maybe they fell off a little, but what they were will always ensure what they are: Legends.

It's still my number one band. I don't think I'll ever stop loving the Beastie Boys because I just can't get enough of them, especially because it's not just about their songs, but about everything relating to them. It's been 8 years as a fan which is not much if compared to my age, but nothing much has changed, expect that I don't listen to them every single day, but there's nothing to worry about.:D
