What do you call those floor cleaner things that you push like a vacuum over carpetting, to pick up dust and lint and hair and stuff, but that don't use electricity and instead use a roller with brush or something that is fixed to the bottom to pull up the debris?

I call it a "sweeper" because that's what I always heard it called. But some other ladies at work laughed when I said that and told me that was old fashioned or something. I can't remember what they called it.

I always called it a Bissel (sp?), because that was the popular brand name. But I'm pretty sure the generic term is carpet sweeper.

edited to add - it does use electricity; it works on electrostatic principles. Like rubbing a balloon on your head and then holding it over rice crispies. Trust me, it's part of standard science-teacher training.

Yeah, these crazy midwesterners, calling a plastic bag a "sack"

I still enjoy the satisfaction of being justified after the moment in which I could have defended myself.

Whatever a woman wants to call it is fine by me. As long as she is cleaning.
