i got fired :( /
it's so fucking stupid, i called up my work during school and they tell me i'm fired, what a bad time to tell me that. the real kicker is that it went like this
me: hey tim, i'm just wondering if i'm working tonight
tim: actually man we're gonna let you go.
how fucking blunt is that.
anyone else here been fired from a job?

Yeah, I once worked at a Ford dealership. I found out I was getting canned when the rota came round and I wasn't on it.

I just went up to my boss and asked why I wasn't on the rota. His response was "I'm impressed you noticed".
What a prick.

Getting fired sucks...espcially when you are a prefectionist like me.
The first time I got fired it was the day after an extremely suscessful event that I put on so I didn't see it coming. I was basically caught in a political crunch they were going to down size and they wanted to combine my job with something else and give it to someone who had senority over me. A week before the event my assistant conveniently left for a new job and screwed somethings up in the process. I got blamed for those screw ups -even though they were fixed in time for the event-and they fired me because they said I wasn't "organized enough". Oh fuck them! I made them thousands of dollars and they canned me just like that. (I'm still pissed about it)
THe second time I got canned I really didn't care, but again it was dumb. I got fired because I told them I didn't think I was getting paid enough. yeah they fired me for that. I was working for another cheap ass non-profit and I took on the added task of illustating these childrens manuals that they put out 'cause I gots some skills in that department. At my review, they said I didn't seem satisfied with the job and I was honest and said: I'm not. I feel over worked and underpaid. I have a college degree and I'm doing illustation for you and I should be comsensated aproprately. Apparently the owner/boss was rather offended that I wanted to be paid what I was worth so she fired me over my answering machine. I didn't get the message and went to work the next day as usual. I was there for and hour when my boyfriend called and told me that he'd just checked the messages and I was fired. Just about that time the owner/boss appeared in the doorway. All I said was "gee thanks for the message"
GOd I hate employers.

well, back in the spring i was about to finish up my 2nd rotation for my co-op (of whats supposed to be 3)
i was talking to my boss and he said "next friday will be oyur last day for this term, but over the summer you might want to look for a nother position since we have nothing for you to do here"
it sucks that i have to go through all this job search just because i got fired on the basis that i wasn't ever given work to do.

I was never really fired from a job until I moved to Arizona, where I was fired from all but two of my jobs.
The first one I was the Head Chef and loved by the Owner of the entire resort, the resturaunt manager who liked to think she was above me was afraid her job was in danger. So when someone said I might leave after the end of that season, she locked me out of the kitchen on a over booked Saturday night.
I called the owner of the resort and had a chat with him, he was pretty pissed that the only chef he ever found who wasn't on meth or a full blown alcholic was getting fucked with. He then said it was easier to replace me with 3 cooks than to fire 80% of his front of the house staff...
The second place was even funnier, I went in knowing in 1 1/2 months the owner had gone through 5 head cooks. So there was just as much of a chance at loosing this job right quick.
I did.
The owner got drunk one morning (yes morning) with our useless morning cook and they decided they didn't need me or my brother anymore. When I came in for the evening, there was my knife bag on top of my last check...
I'll detail the third when I have more time so this job doesn't get added to the list.
sheesh

Yeah I work for the government too. You're right. Less likely to lose my job but also less likely to ever get promoted again. Had my obligitory "one promotion" and that looks like it forever.

Well I'm kinda hoping that there might be a promotion in the pipeline. But it's all hush hush, as the guys who run the department I'm interested in want to cherry-pick their staff which goes against the whole government ethos (apparently). But if I get the job it will probably give me a 25% pay rise and mean my shifts are a little better (no nights).
But government stuff always takes ages for anything to happen, so I could be waiting a while.

I always leave just before I get fired. It all starts when when I fall out with the manager and then I get on my high horse about everything and anything until I have 'quick chat about my attitude' and then I leave. Now I work for myself and I have £900 to last me until April 2006, unless I get a job or my business suddenly rockets at a pace it never has before.
Either way, what I'm saying is, being without a job and poor is not as bad as working for a bunch of jerks you wouldn't normally give the time of day in my opinion. But I might not have as many bills to pay as you (I only have one loan plus domestics).
Good luck, with finding a new job!
