Are you sure its actually released as a single? It could just be that the vid was given to music channels to promote the greatest hits.

ok, i just watched the video... im happy i didnt have to pay 2 bucks for that... that is a fair bad quality video tape... like, i cant believe its actually fans filming it... cheap labour i guess. perhaps the stream made it look worse, but the amateur filming, doesnt cut it for me with an official release. Ill obviosly still buy it, its just one vid ive seen, but...who knows...

I gotta be honest, i hate this. For so many years they tried to stay away from tracks from LTI (with except of a few).
If the Beasties (or Capital) wanted everyone to see the Beasties in a live environment, they should have used footage of sabotage or gratitude. I feel Brass Monkey live (at the fairfax show, which was one day before msg) was the worst performed track, it just doesnt sound right.
Seriously folks, if you were asked to take video from one rap song at a concert, would you actually chose brass monkey to show the world? It would be my last choice of all LTI tracks! Hell, I'd vote to show the dog show with adrock watching in the crowd laughing before i would brass monkey.
I dont blame the beasties for this, I blame Capital.

I can see what you're saying Justin. Sabotage at say the the Cardiff 99 show is what i'd like everyone else to see (y)
Or some festival shit, Beasties need to headline a festival this year (for a random explae how about Reading?!), I think they're made for closing festivals.
But what can you do, Brass Monekey's on the Solid Gold hits thus resulting in the video being put out early on the DVD, thus resulting in it being used promotionally.
Although to be honest I quite like the look of the DVD (y)

Haha! Funny.
Be careful. If you say things like that around here, you might get "ouch"-ed by Yauch.
I'm good friends with Yauch, he's my man. It's just his crazy relative hornblower im worried about. He goes over board with the editing. Ive heard ch-check it out was going fine until Hornblower lost his mind and the beasties were forced to do what he demanded. The man is violent, very violent.
Nathaniel Hornblower has a well-defined mean streak. He's psycho!

I have to agree brass monkey is not one of my favourite live tracks. If they'd wanted LTI track they could have chosen Time To Get Ill. I suppose it would be a better representation of their performance, more energy, crowd shouting etc. Besides they played the song much more often than brass monkey. It's almost indispensable part of their gigs.

Brass Monkey is a fine party joint, and it always has been. It's not 94 no more.
Seriously, how can you not at least enjoy seeing how much fun the crowd were having? Gratitude and Sabotage are great, but we've seen them live soooo many times. This shit is a nice surprise for me.
Capitol did right, if in fact this had much at all to do with them. Blame Yauch, and yourself for being a gigantic misery-guts.

No reason to get personal kid
Your dead wrong. I dont blame Yauch, in fact if it was up to Yauch you would never even see this 'solid gold hits' album. This project is solely Capital driven.
Yes, i did see the people having a good time. That's one thing the video did was to capture the energy the crowd had.
But, sir i promise you, PROMISE, that video footage from the opening track that night, and intergalactic, gratitude, and sabotage blew away the energy the crowd had during Brass Monkey, not counting the performance (and i wasnt even there nor have I seen any other videos from MSG). That's not a negative statement at all, it's just the truth.
Now if they opening up with Brass Monkey that night, it may have been a little different.
To stand back and look at this i say this: Great Marketability by Capital.
It's all business folks

Did you notice if the footage you shot made it to the Brass Monkey video?
If so, can you describe which footage is yours?
Laver1969
10-27-2005, 07:34 PM
They did some major editing on it. I just compared it to the bootleg. The stuff MMM does is completely different...they edited some of the vocals too.
Did Hornblower do this editing?
Laver1969
10-27-2005, 08:18 PM
Yauch already confessed to this. You were there. Don't you remember? ;)
I compared the boot to the official video. I think the official edit stays pretty true to the original performance.
What MMM stuff do you see/hear is different?
Yeah...I remember he said that but I didn't realize how extensive the editing was.
Stuff on the boot that's edited out:
At the beginnng Horovitz says "we wanna do it right" as they are restarting the song.
MMM puts on a different beat during the verse that starts "drink it anytime".
They boys had a delay with "step up to the bar".
It's tough to explain it...but it's cool how the power of editing can change it up.

Yo YoungRemy,

i'd like to think it did..
i did alot of footage of the video screens themselves, and some of MMM mixing on the screens made it. i also shot some breakdancers by the soundboard, there was an area between the floor and the seats where some guys are putting their faces all up in the cameras, thats right where I was seated...
i honestly cant say, but i can pray...

nah it was Friday night, bad luck :(
however the Sabotage vid is going to be on at 1AM tonight (Saturday) >.>
But yeah, it was cool seeing it on TV, it's such a fanboy thing though. I can imagine the casual viewer seeing it and going 'what the hell is this shit? Where are the pimps and hoes?'. But Beasties fans by and large should enjoy it. It is worth noting though that some of the fast editing does get a bit annoying :p hopefully they slow it down a bit more for other tracks, and also get a nice ratio of showing the beasties v. showing the audience.

for anyone at the show, you might have remembered when Brass Monkey started, they had to stop and start over again, MMM may have missed a beat or for whatever reason, Mike D. stopped him and told him to start over...
after further review, I noticed that Yauch actually edited in the mistake, right at the beginning when D. says "oh no, Mike, thats gonna hurt my act..."
But through the power of editing, the music and images flow like Brass Monkey...
(y) seriously, that Hornblower has a vision... (y)
