Yeah. (http://money.cnn.com/2005/10/20/news/economy/sick_days/index.htm?cnn=yes)

...drives me nuts when people who are really sick go to work anyway. especially if it's a public place, but... regardless.

One of my best friends works at the same place I do, and was sick for about a week -- glazed eyes and clearly sick kind of sick -- and I'd say, "Why don't you just go home?" and his point was that, with two kids at home, he wouldn't rest anyway.

Well, maybe, but I think you could. Plus, then, at least you're not spreading it around here, as well.

People seem to think it's more "adult" to just soldier on and work, no matter how ill, and --s orry, but I just think it's immature and short sighted and selfish. (n)

my boss is such an idiot. we hired a part time girl and a few weeks into it she got sick and couldn't come in one day. so he tells me he needs to have a talk with her about getting sick. He said he didn't want her to make a habit of it and really since she's new she should call in sick unless she's dying. I told him to lighten up a bit, because illness isn't a planned event and secondly I didn't want her coming in and getting me sick. So he had a choice either she could be sick for a day or he could have her come in and risk getting the rest of the staff get sick and having them miss more days of work. I guess he saw my point but I think he still lectured her about getting sick cause he's an asshole.

(my boss is a real peice of work. the building we work in is a marina. so a month ago he calls the landlord and complains that there are too many boats in the parking lot. what an ass.)

That is pretty stupid, unless your boss knows something (like: the employee called in sick after binge drinking until 4:00 AM or something).

Yeah; people get sick. Imagine that! If it's a new employee and they develop a pattern of being sick, the employer's got, I think, 90 days (in the United States) to let someone go while on probation. If someone calls in sick enough times to make it seem like a lifestyle, I think that would be enough of an excuse...

most places people I know work are really anal about people calling in sick.

Also, sometimes people can't afford to call in sick. I know that last year I was getting sick a LOT, and I ran out of paid sick days. I had to pay my bills, simple as that. Not that I wanted to be an ass, but I needed the money.

It sucks, but that's life.

I think that is probably why most people come in when sick. And I can't front on that.
As for me, I'd rather take of a day and rest up then work through the day and not get rest which may make me more ill and cause me to miss multiple days instead of that one(I ran out of breath typing that run on).

See -- I think that's kinda wrong, because -- well, what if other people with bills to pay get sick because you didn't stay home?
