have you lived in dorms? do you? did you like it?
now, if I do student housing I won't be in the dorms people live in during freshman year and what not. They have actual apartments that students can live in as upperclassman. That's what I'd be doing. Just curious if anyone had experience with this stuff.
Even if it's shitty, I'll probably do it anyway. Just wanted to hear feedback so I know what to expect and stuff.
gracias :D

TOGA ! TOGA ! (y)
dorm life is dorm life. it's a blast at times, crazy at times, terribly depressing at times. i lived on a co-ed floor with mixed ages from 18 to 23 year olds. my roommate was psycho. the previous roommate before that never let me open the window and cooked rice all day long. it was an icky stuffy suffocating smell. i got rid of her and ended up with the psycho one. she was an alcoholic, slut and thought she was hot shit because of her ZZ cup tits. it was an experience.

haha. yes. her bras were disgustingly big. she wore tight tank tops and because of the size of her bras, you saw more material from bras than you did the tank tops. turqoise bras at that. so, turqoise bras, black tank tops, pink mini skirt, black pumps were her only shoes that i recall and black Raybans. That was the Julie Ryan standard uniform.

most dorms suck because they dont have anywhere to move aorund in
but if your getting an apartment style place, its usually worth the little bit more that youll be spending on it.
at least here, for the extra buck you got all your utilties taken care of, and the upkeep of the place wasn't bad. its real hard ot find a decent looking apartment around here...

the apartment style places are actually cheaper, since it doesn't include a meal plan. Which is fine, I can afford my own food each month and stuff.
So far, it sounds like what I'd be expecting. Hopefully being with upperclassman will cut down on the drama and such. At least I'd have more freedom though, meh.
Julie Ryan sounds like 90-94% of the female population in the college areas of San Diego. Haha.

oh yeah, when i said more expensive, i meant compared to most apartments that students occupy. at least around here anyway...
but yeah, a meal plan is the biggest waste of money. if you really think you might eat on campus enough, just purchase some meal bucks or whatever they are called so you don't have to get ripped apart with cash

ah gotcha. The only reason why I am really taking advantage of the housing is because I can't afford to pay rent out of pocket. So going through financial aid and paying it back later is what I would have to do. Anyway, before anyone says just stay with your parents, not an option.
the meal plan, my ex-boyfriend did that and they would HAVE to get to the place at a certain time or what not to actually get the food. My schedule is so busy, there is no way in hell I can schedule meals like that.

now you know my secret...
the meal plan is such bullshit. i think i only ate in the "DC" a handful of times and only recall eating rice krispies if that tells you anything about the quality of food... what a waste of money.
will you have your own bedroom, or do you have to sleep in the same room as your roommate? to me, that was the shittiest part of living in dorms. absolutely no privacy, you go to sleep, they're there, you wake up, they're there, and if there's something about them that you hate (you'll find something), it's there, and there's nowhere to go to get away from it.
if your apartment dealies have their own bedrooms though, then go for it, it's great.

I'm so glad i lived in a dorm my freshman year. Still have best friends from it. Ok one. But awesome stories. Ok, just a few. I had tons of sex there. Ok, she just used her hand with an oven mit.

yeah, that sucked. i still hang out with him now and then though, he's actually a very good guy if you don't have to live with him. that's probably true of about 98% of the population.

My friend went for the student housing option. He lives with 12 people he doesn't know.

In my first year I joined the Uni with a week until the start of term and never got into halls. Instead I went into a block of private flats designed for student living, and have lived there for the last 3 years.
The ratio of flatmates I've got on fantastically with to those I've either found unwelcoming or straight up twats has been 3:6.
Most people make terrible flatmates.

I've been searching for a houseplant since I came to Uni, but this industrial wasteland of a town has obviously never heard of the term.
This is the first year of the 3 that I've been here that I can rely on not having the guy next door singing his lungs out at 2 in the morning.

I lived in a dorm sophomore year when I transferred and the hall was for transfer students and some international students. the rooms were bigger, but still pretty tight. I had a great time there, but I think it was because I'd never lived away from home and didn't know any better.
My roommate was pretty nice, I thought we'd be friends for a long time...but it didn't really work out that way. Just not enough in common besides the dorm experience. Plus she loved tommy hilfiger and tweety bird decor.

I plan on living in a dorm next semester...my last semester. Why? Never did it before and I really need to get out of the house and I need that experience of living away from home. I need the social life too that I missed by being a commuter. I just hope I don't get stuck in the new dorm building. Looks like an office and the lighting is very depressing.
I was thinking a single room....yeah, that sounds good.
some of my friends who are commuters always ask me how i know so many people (i really dont), but the fact that i live on campus and they don't makes the difference.
i remember freshmen year, those guys were never on campus unless they had class, and if they had a break, they were either in the lobby of the one building or at wendys eating lunch.
now they spend pretty much all day down here and then go home for a late dinner and sleep. i find it amusing.

Yeah in Australia we dont really do the whole dorm thing. Only the students from the country live in colleges generally. The rest of us all live in the suburbs of the city. However, I am moving out in the middle of next year into a house somewhere near uni for conveniences sake. Also I want the whole party house experience.

imagine living in a house at 21 (almost 22) and not being allowed to go out on a week night, except once a month! But you have to ask permission and your room and car have to be spotless before you are able to go out. Oh, and they write reminders on a dry-erase board that's on the fridge for you to clean your room and car every week.
Then on the weekend, you are able to do whatever, but again, your room and car have to be clean. And if it's checked and they are not clean to certain standards, you get in trouble.
Also, you have to write you full schedule: work & classes out on paper, and put it on the fridge.
All of this, when you never cause any trouble at all. You get great grades, you do what you are told. And the worst you do is not dusting your room. And even that means the end of the world.
I rather be in a playpen then psycho land.

I totally thought living in the dorms was way better than people give it credit for. Sure, you might not always end up with the best roommate, or even one you get along with, but you're going to have a ton of stories to tell and gain some social experience in there somewhere. It's fun times.
I always was a fan of the suite style dorms, two connected rooms with one shared bathroom between four people. That way you (kind of) have three roommates and not just the one, so you're forced to make more friends right off the bat. Then sit around and watch the social network grow, dude.
Sure, there'll be differences between you and your roomie, but that's what makes life interesting. Unless you're totally meant to be friends or something, you'll both probably develop your own set of friends and hardly ever see eachother anyway.
In conclusion, dorms are fun but I like having my own bedroom and being able to keep my dog here even better.
