Just rediscovering Licensed to Ill lp record, and maybe a few of you who don't know about this might get a chuckle.. I've noticed on the physical vinyl Def Jam/Columbia (USA) record label, where there is a blank space after the last song would play, it is etched in handwritten letters "Get off My Dick" on Side A, and "Watch Your Back" on Side B. Normally you would only see "Masterdisk" and/or numbers etched here. Another little dirty LTI secret much like the backwards "Eat Me"!!! Classic shit...

Anyway, I have these questions if anybody can/cares to help:

1.What Def Jam/Columbia Records personnel would be responsible for etching this? The guy who "masters" the record (whatever the hell that means - there's another question - what is mastering exactly??)? Other worker?

2. Do any of you have these handwritten sayings on your records as well? I'm sure that you do, but it would be interesting if some of you have different sayings, or slight variations ( maybe we can all post pix for everybody). Basically what I'm getting at is if each vinyl is etched seperately? My guess is yes. But millions of records..I don't know..

3. Do any of the other Beasties vinyls have this? I've checked all my other lps, but I only have a few major releases and a bunch of singles - found nothing.

Whoever sends the record to the press can write what goes in the run-off. At that point, it could have been the beasties or rick reuben, or somebody else at Def Jam. The Rock Hard EP and MCA and Burzootie also have writing in the run-off.

Its a pretty common thing with smaller record companies to see that. You have to remember that, at the time, Def Jam was a small, independant record label.

On my Vinyl copy of "The Blow-up factor Vol. 1" the run-out on side A says "Don't front", and side B reads "Do the math".

Clearly words to live by!

My vinyl LTI says the same as yours tjpop. I also had a copy that had "Fuck You" on the run-out, but after an afternoon of partying in the hot summer sun at my friends house the thing actually warped. We wore that record out, it literally melted from the heat!
