I need some PS2 recommendations.

By Genre:

Sports(preferably basketball)

War/Military (because when it was sung "War, What is it good for?" I replied politely:"Video Games")

Something Else.

Thank you in advance, motherfuckers.

SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS

easily one of the top 5 PS2 games i've ever played, ever. it's a work of art. it's beautiful to look at. gameplay wise...think zelda, only the entire game is boss fights. you're this kid with a bow and arrow, a sword, and a horse, and you have to slay gigantic fucking colossi. it's fairly minimalist, but it's absolutely stunning, i feel better as a person having played it.

it's by the people who made ICO, if that means anything to you. i didn't even like ICO, aside from the graphics, and i absolutely adore this game. it's amazing.

here, have some screenshots. the game looks even better in motion, mind you

This isn't a playstation game (that I know of) but I got Black & White 2 the other day. It's a fun game. I don't very often lol at a computer game when it's trying to be funny, but this one I did. Especially when my pet cow said "I'm gonna take a dump in the village food supplies" and then proceeded to run over to the village food supply, squat down and leave some smelly turds. Which I had to then pick up thank you very much. Don't worry I bitch smacked that heifa until it said "i'll never take a dump in the food supplies again"

Okay, NBA 2K5 was fun. But I strongly recomend ESPN Hockey. Just try it. Good graphics. Great commentary, lots of things to do.

War/Military (because when it was sung "War, What is it good for?" I replied politely:"Video Games")

Socom III is out soon, the series is impressive when it comes to the FPS genre. I'd recommend that, any maybe try Medal of Honor: Rising Sun. The latter was my favorite of the MOH series.

Something Else.

Thank you in advance, motherfuckers.

Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks is fantastic for two player games. Go out and try Ultimate Spiderman, Darkwatch, and X Men Legends II. Give Tekken 5 a run, its fun but easy to win.

oh yeah, metal gear solid 3 is amazing. get that for all your military needs. it's a little bit of sci-fi tossed in but it's a spectacular game, you won't regret it.

seriously though, shadow of the colossus. buy it right now. buy it more than once. rent it and make a copy, i don't care, just play it, it's stunning.

Yeah, NBA Ballers was fun. I enjoyed it much more than I enjoyed nba street 3.

Pro Evolution Soccer 5/Winning Eleven 9.

Best game I've ever played on the ps2 (and it ranks very highly all around) is God Of War. I'm looking forward to trying shadow of the colossus though. And Ico is the classiest game on the ps2.

God of War had some extremely frustrating moments in it, but it was fantastic. I didn't like the weapons he used, they seemed to large and unavoidable, but whatever. The powers he has were bitchin, like Medusa's head.

The weapons weren't too bad although it did get silly at some point with the powerups and all. You'd have these huge flaming blades on chains that are flopping all around and they did fuck all against the larger enemies.

Were there just two weapons or did I forget some?

(the chain things and the blade of artemis)

god of war was another one of my favorite games. the graphics were great, too, possibly some of the best i've ever seen (doesn't hold a candle to shadow of the colossus though).

Mercenaries is the way to go for a war based game. It's very similar to GTA but you are a contractor hired by the U.N.

You do missions for either South Korea, China, U.N. or the Russian mafia.

It's cool cause for all of the countries that you decide to do a mission for, you can betray the other country and you have to work your way into gaining trust from the country in which you've betrayed.

Of course you've got North Korea which is always hostile.

The best thing about the game is the hijacking. Nothing beats stealing a helicopter when it's hovering over your head.

Oh yeah, that game is sweet, too. it's mission based, but if you ever want to just steal a tank and drive around and blow shit up, you can. there's a lot of entertainment value.

one fun thing to do is take a helicopter, fly over a jeep, get it with your winch, then dip it into the ocean (with the people inside, of course).

another fun thing to do is take the $100,000,000 you get for beating the game and call in loads and loads and loads of cruise missiles and stuff. is there an enemy behind a rock that you can't quite hit with your gun? why use a grenade, when you can carpet bomb the place?

the explosions are real purdy
