Whoa.

I swear that I was about to start the exact same thread, Sara. I just logged in a minute ago while listening to She's Always In My Hair (which, by the way, is an awesome song) and went to the music forum to do so and saw this at the top of the page. You're obviously some kind of an evil sorceress, man.

Anyway, you asked for the top 5 favorites, right? Right?

1.When You Were Mine
2.Purple Rain
3.U Got The Look
4.When Doves Cry
5.Erotic City...or...I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man.

Its kind of hard to pick a favorite song, but the first song that came to mind for me was KissTakeMeWithYouSevenGetOffPartyman. But there are sooo many other songs that are just on point.

1.When You Were Mine
My sentimental favorite. But I'm also a sucker for all the non-hits off the first two albums.

Tied for first - Sign O the Times. It really spoke to what was going on in Minneapolis at that time. And he was talking about it when the newspapers and politicians were ignoring it. First mention of our new gang problem was in a Prince hit song. :(

G-mile's right. People need to get that album. But also catch the movie at a midnight show sometime. The Sheena Easton part is hard to take but other wise . . . . (y)

Saw Prince at the Staples Center- can't remember if it was last year or year before (time is so abstract to me now)- couldn't fuckin' believe when he broke out with this one! (y)

Next in line would be
Purple Rain
Kiss
Little Red Corvette

I saw him in Seattle. I think at one point he started playing the riff to Zeppelin's Whole Lottta Love. And No Diggity. I don't know, it's all a blur now, but it was the best concert of my entire life.

This may be considered blasphemous but I like Sinead's version better. Its more emotional, at least to me it is.

I like her version but I think I like Prince's version because I like that Rosie Gaines chick.

Also, I think that one of the main reasons why Sinead's version was more emotional was because of the video.

It has a video!?

(see what I did there? I knew it had a video but was pretending I didn't. Yeah I know..badass is a huge understatement when describing me.)

Anyways...I was thinking that too. But even if I hadn't seen the video...I think you can hear it in her voice more.

I knew what you were doing before I even read more. :p Okay, Sinead's version is better. But that's like the only song she's really got.

Wow, I haven't listened to Prince in ages. I love his music, though.

Probably Little Red Corvette.

I've seen his purpleness live 3 times, prolly was at the same Seattle show as mickill (in the round) and he's right it was amazing.

I saw Prince in Portland a few years earlier and it was even better....which is hard to believe, but trust me, He Wailed! Prince and the NPG did a cover of Joan Osbourne's "What if God Was One of Us", and changed the lyrics, "Just a slob Like one of us" to "Just a slave like one of us" will that fucking did it, the place went crazy, out to the popcorn stands and all the way to I-5. (y)

favorite song by Prince? tie- "When Doves Cry/I Would Die 4 U" which is mighty convenient, since they're tracks 6 & 7 in order on Purple Rain.

Agreed, one of the top 5 shows I've ever seen live, dude is a badasssssss

YOu were not at this show. I was at this show and I have to agree, best show I've ver been to in my life. I've never seen someone do "tight but loose" better. He had those musicians in the palm of his hand. I wore a cream colored suit and was one row from the stage.

yeahwho, you were at this show too? That's crazy.

My favorites are

7
And God Created Woman
When You Were Mine
Beautiful Ones

I'll give it up for the bass on Sign O' The Times, the bass is downright wicked. A low-note funk masterpiece. I haven't listened to it for years and now I have it playing on the headset as I write this.....mickill is right, it's better, but Purple Rain is still one of the best records ever made on the planet earth.
