If the Universe makes it possible for YOU to have offspring, I don't see why not.

(y) mama!!

In the olden days they operated people that they felt were undesirable to breed, Down Syndrome people especially, and people with different psychological problems.

Just a question.

Just a question.

Although I am unable fathom what th thread starter means by the word "allowed", it is sometimes biologically possible, depending on the extent and type of chromosomal abnormality.
Parental concern for the social and sexual life of their child with Down syndrome usually intensifies at adolescence. Unless earlier efforts have been highly successful, the child's social isolation increases outside of structured school and other group situations. Although persons with Down syndrome seldom reproduce, it is necessary to provide them with a healthy understanding and orientation toward sexuality. Pregnancy had been rare, probably as a result of sexual isolation in institutions, but sometimes does occur. About half the infants born of such pregnancies have Down syndrome. males with trisomy 21 not associated with mosaicism or translation have not been known to reproduce (Bellenir 1996).

My understanding is that they are certainly capable of having children and that those children can be "normal" heathly children.

I imagine the couple might need some assistance in caring fro the child but they can be parents

This is a classic example of someone sucking the entire effect out of a simple joke/quip/snap/one-liner etc. I call it Jabumbo'ing.

I was simply trying to make it clear to wanton wench that having children is not a cute process and involves lots of ejaculation, blood, abdominal pain, and human waste. :) (y)

well as your quote says "About half the infants born of such pregnancies have Down syndrome" and my question concerns the dominant ethical thinking regarding this fact.

I'm not making a judgement it's an actual question. are their laws regarding this or is it just so uncommon that it's never become an issue?

Everyone should have to pass a test in order to have a child.

This is a fucking BAD TASTE thread - you guys. (n) You Fucking Idiots. I worked in Disabled Student Services as a student assistant at my community college 13 yrs ago for a couple of terms - and many special needs people I met there were far cooler than some of you assholes.

did any of them have really big tongues?

back when I was 11 one of the special needs kids at school pinned me up against a wall and proceeded to lecture me about how angry he was that I didn't go to his birthday party and how everyone had been there and I'd missed out. it was like getting yelled at by a drooling Gene Simmons.

Well, if you're ever reading through a random thread with no more than about 7 responses, and you find yourself falling asleep due to lack of interest, chances are you're in a Jabumbo thread.

If you come across a post that seems to exhibit the absolute lowest common denominator possible for human intelligence, chances are it's a Jabumbo post.

If you receive a PM with some asinine question about something completely irrelevant and you find yourself a little creeped out. Well, chances are...whatever, you get the point.

Depends on the situation I guess.

However I'm sure that some people in here should be sterilised for the sake of humanity.
