i have to say that the simpsons is probably the greatest tv show that has ever graced our screens. i have watched it since episode 1. its funny how theres always something that will happen in your day that will remind you of an episode, or something that you can reference. and certain quotes and sayings become firmly entrenched in your vernacular. when i catch up with certain mates almost our whole conversation can be in simpson speak. What are your favourite lines/quotes? My funny simpsons thought for today is the episode when bart sells his soul to milhouse, and goes to find him to get it back and goes to i think kirk's mums place? and when bart leaves the grandma says something like 'kirk! the door's still open! and kirk says 'shut up shut up shut up!!!!'
i use that line every day guaranteed. funny. so share your favourite lines/quotes here dammit, and make me laugh!

I think it's beyond the point where I can have any distinctly 'favourite' lines, because mr.peachy and I use so many of them so often. You're right though in that there's almost no situation where a line or two won't fit in. I mean, mr.p and I spent pretty much our entire time in Osaka singing "knife goes een, guts come out" and giggling, you know?
Or if I call him when he's meant to be on his way home and I suspect he's in the pub, I'll say "Are you licking toads?" and of course if he is in the pub, he'll answer "I'm not not licking toads."
And on, and on, and on, and on. I can think of about a thousand and one examples, without even really trying very hard.
this is actually a theory i've been working on. for every situation in life, there is a quote from the simpsons, and an entire episode of seinfeld that you can relate it to.

ms. scotty, a psychologist, uses simpsons quotes, or uses scenes to illustrate what she is saying when she is with clients.
The Simpsons is the Best TV Show Ever.

I've gone off the simpsons. I'd much rather futurama or family guy any day in that genre.

*insert tired remark about how The Simpsons lost it's way after season 9 here*

Whatever anyone may say about it 'losing its way' its still much funnier than anything else on TV. I know Futurama was meant to be the simpsons for big people but it always seemed to fall just that bit short. South Park was funny for about 2 seasons and then got old. Family Guy is essentially just a rip-off and King of the Hill is really inconsistent. And if I meet any of the characters from seinfeld I gonna punch their fucking faces in.
So I'll say it again - Best Show Ever.

Humour has been sacrificed to constant gay references on The Simpsons. I can watch whole episodes without even a glimmer of a smile.
I used to love that show. I can't bear to watch it these days because of what they have done to it. Even their attempts at satire or social comment are just pathetic. They recycle old jokes again and again.
Favourite lines from the glory days:
"I find this most demeaning Krusteh!"
"Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand"
Marge: "I don't think women like being shot at in the face Homer"
Homer: "I must have set it on whore"
"We've searched every inch of this place and all we found was porno! porno! porno!"

i could write for days on the simpsons (pre season 10 of course). i have a simpsons tattoo of dignity (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v426/the_realization/dignity.jpg).
the dialogue that accompanies "dignity" is hilarious
Kirk: do you want me to show it to the cat and have the cat tell you what it is? Cause the cat's gonna get it.
Luann: i'm sorry kirk. we didn't all go to Gudger College.
or when Homer became a food critic:
Homer: the bread was....
Santa's Little Helper: Ruff!
Homer: Rough? that's been your answer for everything.
SLH: CHEWY?!?
or when smithers and mr. burns are talking about playing golf with Homer:
Mr. Burns: I wonder if this Homer Nixon is any relation
Smithers: I doubt it sir. they spell and pronounce their names differently.
oh man what a show. what happened to it?

It needs to end while people remember it with fondness. Either that or they need to get the writers for Futurama onto reviving it.

i completely agree that they have lost their way. one of my favourite seasons is season 4, an unparalled piece of perfect humor and satire. every episode is gold. thats when conan o'brien was producing, and he wrote the monorail episode, which is one of my all time favourites. best. episode. ever.
heres an unrelated favourite spinning newpaper headline: 'man loses pants, life'

They've just started making an Arabic version, with no beer and no bacon and no Moe. For reals.

Homer: Well, what do you think, Marge? All I need is a title. I was thinking along the lines of... No TV and no beer make Homer something something.
Marge: Go crazy?
Homer: Don't mind if I do!
