I don't know what the fuck is going on anymore, man. I think somewhere along the line I may have turned into a fuddy duddy or something. Maybe not though... here's the situation that's got me wonderin'.

So I live in a duplex that's joined through a connecting door in the basement. We all know eachother, there's 10 of us, and for the most part it's alright living here. Besides, it's one of the only places that will allow me to have my dog.

Anyway, it turns out one of my roommates plans on holding a costume party here tonight. This disturbs me because nobody asked me about it at all and I've got work at 8AM tomorrow morning. With or without that extra hour of sleep (DST), it's still getting up pretty damn early for me.

Now if this had been the first time he'd done something like this, I might be more willing to let it slide. But this isn't the first time... it's more like the fourth or fifth. When I asked him what was going on tonight, and he told me, after I told him that his guests better be quiet or I won't hesitate to come up there and shut the whole thing down he told me I needed to chill out and quit acting like I'm everyone's dad or something.

That last part is particularly funny for reasons I won't get into, but y'all can probably take guesses at that.

The question is, do y'all think I'm justified in my slight level of being pissed off or do I really need to just chill out and let them have their party? I mean, I don't plan on shutting it down immediately, but if they're keeping me from getting my sleep, then that's when I'm busting up there in my drawers and telling them where to go.

it's halloween, man

i think you must be turning into a fuddy-duddy if you are concerned about your sleep... at your age, you should be going to the party, pulling an all-nighter AND getting up for work on time... that's just what you're supposed to do at that age...

while it's lame of him to not ask you first or at least let you know about it, it would be even lamer of you to come down grandfather-style and shut the place down. it's freaking halloween weekend.

i had a teacher for a class tell us that we had to view computers as being sticks in the mud, and that how we had to treat them when we went about using them for thinks like programming and the like

fuckin retard...

as far as your situation, my guess is that your allready asleep, so its not going to matter, but i think you might be better off saving face and letting things roll than trying to bust shit up which would just get everyone on your back about shit like that....

I'm lucky. I could sleep through a nucular war. So that wouldn't bother me.

So to answer your thread title question: Yes :p

ScarySquirrel

Buy one in Grand Rapids and we might be talking, fuck that Detroit nonsense.

Anyway, I got my rest even if it meant walking up in the middle of the party in my underwear and t-shirt. I told those people they had two choices, either quiet down or explain it to someone wearing a police officer's outfit that wasn't in a costume.

That seemed to work pretty well... and I got my sleep and I was happy.

Well, it looks like I won't be buying the Jeep quite yet cause I got the job in Beijing since my wife has a green card now. They're signing a waiver since she isn't a full U.S. citizen but it looks like I'm holding off on getting it for a year. I'll be going to W.V. for training for 2 weeks and then a week after that, it's Beijing bound.

It's good you got the situation under control though, true friends should understand the value of sleep if you have to work early. I cant stand going to work tired cause it makes the day go by longer

That's not cool man. How would you feel if someone invited you to a party at their house, then just as you were getting into it and having a good time some sleepy guy comes in in his skimpies and threatens to call the feds? That's a real moodkiller dude. (n)

Uh, I don't think he was gonna call the FBI. ^

But still, threatening to call the cops? I'm sure you kinda lost some major cool points there with your colleagues.

It is one thing to be woken up unexpectedly, but when you have time to prepare for partying all night and knowing you are going to have to wake up early, then that's just what you have to do... being young and enjoying college life is much too short-lived... you really gotta grasp the moments when you have them... there's plenty of time for sleep...

She meant before you have kids, I'm sure.

Last night:

11:30 pm - Went to bed (which is pretty early for me)

1:30 am - Woke up to soothe child and help her fall back to sleep

1:45 am - Went back to sleep

3:30 am - Changed child's diaper, child would not go back to sleep, had to rock upset child for 45 minutes

4:30 am - Fell asleep again

4:45 am - Child upset, I bring child to mother for feeding, tried to fall asleep again

5:30 am - Fell asleep

5:45 am - Alarm clock went off, got up to get ready for work

Parties that weren't planned with the consent of all the people living there are a real sleepkiller, that's my stance.

If the dude wanted to have a party the absolute least he could have done is ask ALL of his apartment-mates and planned it more than twenty-four hours in advance. I also tend to think that I should have known about a party at my own place before people who were attending the party. Maybe I'm just a weirdo though.
