so we're having to kind of kick out our roomie. the last few weeks have been rough to say the least. we found our bottle of tequila, empty (it had been about half full) in his room...matt had bought a twinpack of canned air for his comps and noticed one missing one day, and it was back later that night - but almost empty. tonight roomie admitted he was huffing it. this is only the tip of the iceberg. tomorrow i'm calling his mom and telling her we're kicking his druggie ass out (y)

its really a let down when someone you know well enough to live with will just go and abuse things like that. i'm just glad that my roommates ask me before they invite people over, because that one would drive me nuts

his mom??
he's a momma's boy. she basically pays for everything for him, and he doesn't even have a job. that's how it's always been for him. he's never had any responsibility. he's a bit younger than us, and grew up in a completely different environment. i figure if i let them know they'll force him to move back in with them or cut him off financially, and he'll learn about the real world the hard way.
So you're saying there's room available soon?

I had to kick out one of my best friends once. She had come to visit on a some what indeffinete stay. She was drinking really heavily at the time and doing it behind our backs. She went so far as to to do the old refil the liquor bottles with water kinda thing. Anyway after she got kicked out of our local bar one night I draged her ass to my therapist the next day. we all decided it would be best if she went to stay with family and get straight. She did, and were still best buds. Kicking her out of our house was the best thing we could have done for her at the time.

C'est La Vie
that story reminds me of when one of my best friend's from high school came to attend my college and live with my roommates and me...
we were all 21 and had been living away from home for 3 years, but she was brand new out of the house... she did everything wrong from hooking up with the roommate's boyfriends to psychologically playing games, etc. she started turning all of us against each other and we finally all got together and talked it out and realized that she was the poison in the house... after finding out she'd been spitting loogies in the milk and cutting her toenails into the cereal boxes, we all got together and told her to beat it...
instead of leaving right then and there, she stayed 2 weeks more until the month ran out... pure hell...
mickill

Why didn't you all just beat her ass with curling irons and broken cooler bottles and spray her face with Aquanet?
Why didn't you all just beat her ass with curling irons and broken cooler bottles and spray her face with Aquanet?
we did just that - ('cept it was Paul Mitchell and not Aquanet)
that was the weirdest part of her staying those extra 2 weeks!

loogies and toenails? christ!
i'm kind of worried about when he gets home. i hope he doesn't start acting out more just to spite us. should we hide the rest of the canned air? should i guard my tea?
i don't know what changed. at his birthday we got him all kinds of great stuff and he was so happy and thankful and up until then we had been getting along well if not for little frustrations here and there when he wouldn't pick up after himself...we attributed that to "he's never lived on his own" but i've only lived away from home for the last 8 months and you don't see me being clueless as to what groceries to buy myself for the week. *steam*

oh..yeah we had to kick a roomate out in college too.
he had been my roomate for 3 years prior, including being my bunkmate in the dorms for 2 years...so we were pretty close.
but the summer before we all moved into a house together...he (he was 23) hooked up with some hometown whore who was only 16 or 17 (he had been fucking around with her since she was 15!).
well both families disagreed with it, obviously....but they were both complete idiots...
so, come the school year....he moves her in with us last minute (we were all like "ummm...yeah, i guess").
both families disowned them....so they were on thier own and poor.
so now we got this 17 year old skank living with us (they were living in the basement)...and from day 1, it was fucking bizarre.
first off....she would parade around the house in next to nothing- like half naked- as an obvious ploy for attention....and yeah, she was hot....but dude, she was 17....and she was our friends girl. so it just made us feel dirty.
also, she was lazy as fuck, had no job, contributed in no way the household chores.
and than it only got weirder.
it become very apparent that she had some drastic mental disorders....mostly histrionics and narcissm. Basically, she loved drama and creating dramatic scenes.
it became common place to hear the 2 of them fighting downstairs...then she would run upstairs, lock herself in the bathroom and threaten to kill herself.
and nate (our roomate) would have to just sit outside the door and wait for her.
this literally happened weekly.
after a while, he didn't trust her in the bathroom alone (she used to cut herself and shit) so he would have to go in the bathroom with her...whenever she went in there...even to shit.
yeah, it only gets weirder.
so, it also became apparent that they were complete sexual pervs.
i mean, nate was like 23 ...and fucking a 17 year old...so that was a clue...
but they would fuck ALL THE TIME, really fucking LOUD. you could hear it throughout the house...in the middle of the day and shit.
she sounded like a dying animal- and she would scream and sing and shit when she came.
so during all of this, me and a rooomate decided we just HAD to see what was up with these two...so
we snuck downstairs into thier room when they were out.
jesus fuck.
he was a photo major....and he had pictures of her EVERYWHERE. nude ones...sick ones. asshole shot...tit shots with food on her...
he had a framed picture of her vagina on the bedside table.(i'm not making that up)
clothes and trash every where. it smelled terrible.
we were terrified.
we were living above a dungeon of sin.
we thought for sure we would find a kidnapped sex slave in their. ("it rubs the lotion on the skin..."
they had no car. just a bike. one bike.
she would ride it, he would run beside her...everywhere. (who does that?)
one night...they were wrestling in the living room in front of us (i have no idea why)...and nate pretended to get her in a headlock.
and then she started crying...and pretended to pass out.
and she just laid there for like 10 min.
then, when we said we were gonna call the ambulance....she "wakes up"...and claims she doesn't remember anything.
nate was like "guys...she has AMNESIA!"
yeah, nate....amnesia. that's what she has. uh huh.
we tried talking to her about wearing more clothes....and about doing some work around the house....but she would just start crying and run downstairs.
then nate would yell at us when he got home.
fuck it. we decided she had to go..and him with her.
and guess who the house nominated to tell her...
yeah, your's truly.
oddly....it actually went really well. he said he understood...and they planned on moving out in a few weeks.
the next 3 weeks were so tense. no one talked to them and vice-versa.
after they moved out...they fucking disapeared.
we never saw them around.
nate graduated and they were fuckin gone in the spring.
i have no idea what became of them.
she was such a weird skank.

Qdrop, you literally discribed my brothers ex... at one point of their "relationship" she had to move in at my parents house (my bro still lived there), and she behaved the exact same way as you said.
one night she started to call my mother and me whores and other reeeeeaaally nasty stuff. we asked her to leave, otherwise we would kick her out. she started screaming even more, attacked my mother, took her clothes of because she thought that we wouldn't kick her out naked.... i called the police and they took her away, finally.
since then, she's still threatens the whole family... some people belong in a sanatory...
so, it also became apparent that they were complete sexual pervs.
i mean, nate was like 23 ...and fucking a 17 year old...so that was a clue...

he MADE her a pair of daisy dukes shorts that were so trimmed down, they were basically a thong.
then he cut the crotch in half and "safety pinned" it back together...for some kind of slut effect.
and he made her wear them...and he took pictures of her in them...with no underwear.
i WISH i was making this up.

6 years difference, she was 18 I was 24, she was and still is the mature one. Ain't nothing wrong with it. The only thing we don't/didn't have in common is our ages, so we weren't gonna let something like that get in the way.

i just think roommates are hard to deal with because no one is perfect, and there will ALWAYS be issues.

Have you even read the contents of the container of the can he was huffing before you decided to NARC on him?
It most likely was not Freon! Freon is far too rare (expensive) and far too harmful to the ozone to use in canned air to clean your keyboard with. It was most likely CO2, Carbon Dioxide. Although it is approx. -300 degrees below zero in liquid form, and could possibly freeze someone's lungs as Skinnybutphat described, as long as you don't spray the liquid directly into your nose, frozen lungs shouldn't be a problem. They use the same stuff to pressurize Beer-miesters and Soda fountains.
Simply huffing the gas does nothing more than displaces the oxygen in your lungs with CO2. It's the equivilent of someone holding their breath.
Ya it not freon , but your "it's like holding your breath" isnt

hey guess what! i just read the contents of the CONTAINER.
it contains tetrafluoroethane, psst, it says so right here on the MSDS (http://www.fellowes.com/Fellowes/materials/documents/MSDS_99791.PDF).
and that, my little unknowledgeable friend, is also known as....wait for it.....FREON 134a (http://www.osha.gov/dts/chemicalsampling/data/CH_269970.html)
oh and the bottle says it also may contain Difluoroethane (http://www.osha.gov/dts/chemicalsampling/data/CH_235325.html) . Which is also known as, lets all say it together now, "Freon 152a".
please do a little research before you make an ass out of yourself more so than normal.
Simply allowing your friend to do something so utterly stupid is not being a friend to them at all. I'd rather see him live till he's 100 than to see him die to a stupid can of air.

because there is almost always something really wrong with a guy in his mid 20s who wants to date a high school girl. He's not a real man, he can't handle a woman his own age, whatever. You made a good point. But no reason to slam Cosmo.
Cosmo did the right thing. We live in a world where most people pretend not to see things that make them uncomfortable. We need more people who will address the problem. Ultimately, your friends make their own choices, but you should try and help by letting the people who have responsibility for him/her know what you know. That's the only way I could sleep at night.

I can kinda relate to you as far as seeing a good friend that you care about start to spiral out of control with drugs. I mean, we've all done crazy stuff (well, maybe not everyone) that one day when your alone and doing some "deep thinking", you start to realize how serious the stuff that you were doing was, afterall. But, when your around it and it's seen as the "norm", you don't realize that you actually are the person that those "after school specials" were discussing. Seriously, it starts out as something crazy to do on a rare basis to have fun. Then, overtime, which is usually years, it starts to become a problem because it affects your day to day functioning and you don't even realize it because it happens so slowly. Plus, you try and reason that you don't fit the profile of "those people" and you don't associate with "people like that". You can come from a good family, be well-educated, and be seen as a "successful" person in society and still have a problem. You're usually not aware that a problem even existed until your able to step back and remove yourself from the situation. Scary stuff! But, it happens all the time. Good Luck, with your friend!

When I was doing the share house thing many years ago, the only iron-clad rule we had when interviewing for new housemates was: NO JUNKIES. Most of the time it was obvious and we'd chuck their pin-eyed loser arses out the front door. There were a lot where I used to live so it'd be a fairly common thing thing. A couple of times they'd sneak under the radar because at first they'd seem like normal human beings. Then the teaspoons would start to go missing and their skanky mates would start hanging around, your cd collection would go walkabout and bogus credit card bills for people you'd never heard of would start turning up in the mail because of the credit card scam operating out of your address.
So I sympathise with out on this, Cosmo, cause living with addicts is shit.

So did you tell her that you're airing (pun intended) her very private and embarressing dirty laundry over the entire internet?
Yeah, because we all know exactly who she is now, and can point at her in the street and laugh! What the hell were you thinking, Cosmo? Jeez you know, you really need to learn to think of others more.

Dear Cosmo,
I'm feeling a bit stuffy. Could you air me out, please?

Zinc.
and fluids. lotsa fluids.
actually, i wonder if the whole "Zinc for colds" thing is just a bunch of bullshit.
i'd like to see the clinical trials on that...

Not so sure about the zinc during pregnancy. Apparently yes it is still a vital mineral to be taking in in normal quantities, but an excess of anything is probably inadvisable, because there's no way of knowing what the 'safe' level is for the developing Bean.
So I'm thinking mostly it's going to be, lots and lots of ginger and lemon tea.

I put a drop of honey (okay, fine, 5 or 6 drops) in mine when I'm sick.

Oh, I was thinking I'd just eat that straight out of the jar, actually.

stay away from herbs, for sure, during pregnancy. but vitamin C would probably be the safest thing for you right now...either that or homeopathic remedies. the standard advice is to always check with a doctor, but unfortunately most doctos know little if anything about natural products and tell you to stay away from them period. but if you're lucky, you can find a good M.D. out there with training in both fields that will tell you what can help :) i'd stay away from antibiotics. you're already at higher risk for a yeast infection from the pregnancy - don't want to go raising it even higher.
haywood, you must be an alias or an ex boyfriend or something. you seriously think i'm "airing out her dirty laundry"? please. you have no idea who either of these people really are. i'm not posting pictures of them. i'm not telling you their names and addresses. come off it already  i'm just venting. if you've got a problem with it, don't read it.

Usually if you consider someone a friend, you don't betray their trust by AIRING their business out.
Obviously you seem to be friendly with "Cosmo" because you keep defending her....a word to the wise....DON'T LET HER KNOW YOU'RE PRIVATE BUSINESS OR SHE JUST MIGHT "AIR" YOU OUT NEXT!
whatever you say, Robmoney. :)

i know this thread is super old, but i happened to look at it today while searching for something else and remembered that i never added an important development that we found out about a year later:
the kid was lying about his age. he wasn't 19 when i met him.
HE WAS 16. so when we kicked him out he was 17. yeah. his mom never told me! i guess it never came up in conversation. anyway, last i heard of him he was a bit of a junkie scenewhore. it sucks, because he was such a good friend of ours and so fun to be around. but it made so much sense when we found out. the grossest part was one of my friends (who is a year younger than i am) actually made out with him once without realizing he was 16, huaaggh!
I remember this thread.
One of my room mates announced she was leaving last night :)
Which is cool because she is the most annoying attention seeking whore I know.
"I am going through a lot of shit right now and I don't feel I'm getting the support I need here" Which is just another attention seeking speech but she does have somewhere else. A bit of background is that my landlord is my sisters boyfriend and the leaving house mate is an old mate of my sister and she has been feeling left out because my dad died of lung cancer earlier this year she and hasn't been getting the attention from any of us like before because we ain't here as much or care about her problems even though she might be the most single person EVER... So like my mum is my first priority, my landlords priority is my sister and she has no concern for any of us while we've had to deal with the last 8 months.
Anyway, I'm ranting but good riddance to blinkered spoilt brat! And I see the best in everyone.

one of the future tennants of Death House II just jumped. plus my four litre milks are lasting about 36 hours in Death House I. that should tie up all loose ends of conversation within this thread.
