only found out the other day at work that the album can be calculated to do play all at once or something? the album is a huge formula or something.

and that the song Lateralus; the drumming coinecides with the Fibonacci sequence.

anyone else know bout these things? or care to give more background info?

I had read that the drumming in Lateralus had to do with the Fibonacci sequence, which also relates to the lyric in that song "Spiral Out...Keep Going." Where did you get the info about the "huge formula" and whatnot? Either way, this cd is an absolute masterpiece.

a mate at work told me about it. if you look around on google you can find some info sites about it. crazy shit. if it were anyone else i'd say "that's taking music way too seriously" but it's Tool here.

This link is fairly informative (http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/612646)... I don't put this past Tool at all. I mean, I think some of the stuff is a bit farfetched, but the fact is that a good deal of people refer to Tool as Math-Metal, so you never know. If you really poke around and do your research, they are all really into the arcane and the cryptic, so this seems very in character for them.

My friend and I both love prog-rock so I'm trying desperately to get him into Tool but he is not feeling it. I will succeed.

I really liked 'Lateralus'. I might have to buy it. I thought they sounded too smart for their own good at first, but I do enjoy that album. (y)

i love him and want him back.

however this is not going to happen, so i'm settling for friendship. he's not one of those overprotective pain in the ass exes. he's a very cool person, and he brings me cds, we go and check out bands together and stuff :)

You should get over him. Onwards and upwards friend. (y)

i've tried to but i can't. i've tried dating other people, even though they are better people than he is, the spark just isn't there. i can't commit to someone else emotionally. being alone, gives me time to pine over him. i'd have his babies if he asked me to. it's really quite fucked. i think the only solution is time.... and lots of it. not seeing him at all would help, but i can't bring myself to not see him, as he makes me so happy. he's going away for a while, that should help.

anyway... so um.. tool?

terrible fucking record.

I really wanted to like it because undertow and aenima are two of my favorite albums but its just stupid. I could really care less if theres some hidden mathematical formula in the drumming. All that proves is math helps you make shitty music.

I used to listen to a ridiculous amount of Tool when I was younger, now well, I don't. they've become the new Led Zeppelin in a way. everyone so overawed by the whole mystic around them that they don't realise when, as Notorious correctly states, they put out of a load of shit.

from what I hear, if you listen to Lateralus while watching a Nightmare before Christmas, they're supposed to sync with each other.

I kind of agree with the detractors insofar as the fact that there are a lot of Tool fans who seriously ride their jock. It seems inherent to the prog-rock genre, the close-minded fans. I personally love Tool's music, but if I hear a Tool song I don't like I'm not gonna bullshit just because it's Tool.

coincidentally, I was digging to listen to some tool

Coincidentally, I just started listening to Lateralus a couple of days ago (at the suggestion of a friend) and came here looking for what people thought. I rather enjoy it, if only because it's such a change from what I usually listen to. I certainly wouldn't call it a terrible album, it has a couple of low moments but overall it cranks it out pretty good. It's definitely got me interested in Tool, about which I know next to nothing.

One thing I want to know is if anybody knows of other good metal instrumentals, like "Triad" off of this album. I'm tired of all the orchestral stuff I usually play when I write essays, and I think I need something more energetic and stylistically different to revive my thinking.
