I like the editing Cooledit has to offer. The best mix program is protools, the best REMIX tool is SONY ACID PRO, some other people will dispute my reply, but most of the software is the same, it depends how you like to 'do business' so to speak!

Hope this helps

I prefer cubase sx for mixing, good realtime effect, user friendly and a whole lot of vst plugins.....i heard a lot of good things about protools to but haven“t got the chance to work with it yet.

it's defly what ever u learn to use is the best
alot of programs do the same things but go about doin it in completely different ways,...that's my opinion i just switched from hardware to software lil over a year ago

i rocked a couple mixes using adobe audition (same as cool edit)
wicked easy to set up and manipulate

i have ACID, never got into it though i hear it's cool

my friend bought a wicked exspensive mac and has some wack ass program he always uses, his music sucks....it makes me sick
this is true, meaning dont spend tons of money on stuff if u suck at making music
cuz i think there are some cool programs for pc

All the software I've seen mentioned is pretty good and standard for audio production. It helps to differentiate programs that primarily mix (like Protools, Cubase, Nuendo, and Audition aka Cool Edit Pro) that are good for basic multitracking and song arrangement and programs that primarily sequence (like Acid or Live) that are terrific for remixing. Some programs do both really well (like Logic Pro) but are pretty expensive.

Fruity loops is great for sequencing loops but it's only available for the PC right now. Excellent program for the money.

As for myself, i'm mac based and use a combination of Garageband, Reason, and Protools. I sequence everything but the vocals in Garageband, use Reason mostly for drum sequencing, and mix everything in Protools, including the vocal tracks. Sometimes I master with T-racks but i've been laying off the mastering lately.
