It depends on the Underground Rapper/Rap outfit.

Some are pretty normal, but some are more pretentnious than can be understood by modern science.

Indie is to Rock, not Prog.

Prog and indie have the same level of pretentiousness; Prog rockers just differentiate themselves from the "mainstream" with their music as well as arguably pretentious attitude, whereas indie rockers make music that is, albeit often very good, not that different from many "mainstream" rock bands except insofar as it is not considered "mainstream."

Honestly I think the underground rap acts are generally more pretentious than the prog-rock bands. I guess it might just be different ways. There is an almost religious fervor associated with the traditions of hip-hop, and because of this there is a widespread belief that mainstream rap artists are completely ruining the genre by disgracing the way the art form has always been. For this reason, the underground rappers are often championed as the saviors of hip-hop as we know it.

Prog-Rock bands act much more self-absorbed than truly pretentious. For example, a band like The Mars Volta: they are far more self-involved and self-conscious than they are truly pretentious in the judgemental sense of the word.
