I'm not joking you guys ! I am in a serious relationship with a 30 yr. old live in girlfriend who doesn't smoke or drink - at all. Geez..how rare is that to find - ya know ? Going to clubs now is totally different because I've been a different person for a long while now. And I dance my ass off with my new babe all night on the weekends. We do things like ride our bikes at the beach and stuff and I'm loving it and her too. Even if I didn't have someone in my life, I've realized that I don't have to drink to have a good time anymore. I only drank but a quart of beer on both Halloween and last night, during my birthday party that my girlfriend and all my buddies surprised me with. Some guys I still know since being 15 , which was 1985 = 20 years ago. They all hate and despise me ever since I told em officially last night that I've decided not to drink anymore. They said, "We bought you all this fucking beer and you are saying you don't wanna fucking drink it with us !!?" They called me "pussy-whipped" and all sorts of shit after I drank only one quart with them and said " I don't need or want it anymore !" They were fucking shocked as hell and some left, taking the beer they bought with them fucking else where. I'll admit that out of all the girlfriends that I've pretty much ever had - the current one is the only one that has not encouraged but deterred me from drinking. I'm lucky to still be alive and don't consider malt liquor to be a part of my life anymore. I just don't need it as an excuse to have a good time anymore. (y)

Some people will always be offended if you don't drink with them... People need to chill and realize that you can drink fucking orange juice instead of beer and still be a good friend.

Yeah, cool and good luck. You'll have to change your username tho...
I'm always impressed with people who don't drink in a drinking crowd and still enjoy it all. They are a better person than I am (y)

I think it's great and all that you are happy with this new chick and she is opening your eyes to things other than drinking...but seriously dude if you have to STOP doing somthing you enjoy because this girl has a problem with it then you arent being true to yourself. I could go on and on...but who would listen.

I was put off drinking when my best friend was killed by a drunk driver at the age of 16.

How serendipitous, I have decided to start drinking. I don't think I go out enough. No, really.

I haven't actually "enjoyed" drinking maltliquor or any other beer/alcohol for quite a LONG time now. I only drank beer for most of my life because, "It's what guys DO to have a good time." I just got REALLY LUCKY in the early part of this year and found someone that I care a hell of a lot more about than drinking beer and partying at clubs. And no, "she" hasn't EVER mentioned to me that I had to quit drinking or that she has a problem with it. It's just something that I had a personal issue with a long time before I met her that I've wanted to change. She doesn't drink at all or do drugs (like most prior girlfriends still do) but she's a very fun and enthuisiastic person to be around. Yesterday, we went horseback riding and had a great time. I've NEVER imagined getting on a fucking horse before in my life - but I pulled it off and finally got the hang of it. She has been riding horses since she was 9 yrs. old and wanted me to try it. It was just something spontaneous. And if I had been drinking the night before (as usual ) I probably would've broke my fucking neck. She likes going out and dancing, which weve been doing quite alot and I don't wan't to risk making her feel awkward by drinking. We decided to live together over 5 months ago - and she moved in with me. She's not a slut either (like mostly all have been in the past) and didn't sleep with me for the first time until after close to 2 months of getting to know me. She brought up wanting to have children eventually as I have yearned to do with the right person for a longtime in my life. So we have practiced safe sex and planned-parenthood, for when the time is right. I honestly don't want my kids growing up and smelling the fucking stinch of alcohol on my breath or seeing daddy with a beer bottle in hand ever 5 minutes. If we marry (perhaps in the very near future and start a family) - awesome. If not - I feel content in my new appreciation to stay sober and not to drink even in moderation. I'm just in such "better shape" than before which, makes my reflexes so much better on a bicycle (my favorite recreation) besides sex and so much more ! I'm still a fucking hell-raiser with my freestyle ramp riding and loud music - but a sober and happier one. (y)

DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE
I saw a show about her on the Discovery Channel. It was about new technology on being able to do face transplants. Like they are trying to be able to take other people's faces after they die and transplant them onto people. It was pretty cool stuff.
But, yeah, her story really bothered me. It makes you think about what really defines a person and what's important in life. I pray that I would never have to learn that way. It's cruel.

I don't see anywhere in there where he's said she's forcing him to stop, only that being with her has made him re-evaluate his priorities. Maybe all of the the drinking was the "not being true to himself", ya know?
