Last weekend I saw The Roots. Tonight I will see Fishbone and tomorrow is Mos Def, Talib Kweli, et al. I saw Bad Relgion about 3 weeks ago, I think.
Any good shows coming up in your neck of the woods?

I used to go to gig at least twice-three times a week. Now it's more like twice a month, if I can afford... I saw White Stripes a week ago (Sigur Ros played here on the 1st, but couldn't afford), next weekend I'm gonna see Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, on Sunday I'm going down to Gothenburg to see them and then on Monday they're playing here in Stockholm. On Saturday House of Love are playing and I really have to go to see them, they were a huge favourite of mine back in the day, and the tickets are ridiculously cheap. If I suddenly got money I'd also go to see Weeping Willows on the 10th, Röyksopp on the 21st and Sonic magazine's 5th birthday party on the 24th, with Håkan Hellström, Howlin' Pelle, Ebbot from TSOOL, Robyn and Christian Kjellvander amongst others.
I do have a ticket to The Soundtrack of Our Lives Christmas special on 14th Dec., 4th row :D

I don't see that many shows. For being the second largest city in Michigan, Grand Rapids sure doesn't draw that many interesting (to me) acts. Most of the time I either have to drive all the way to Detroit or to Chicago... 'cause they're both pretty much the same distance from me.
I usually go for Detroit if I can though, 'cause the driving isn't so damn nuts there.

I saw a ton of stuff in the past couple of months, but it's winding down now as our small theaters start to fill up with xmas shit.
We do get three solid nights of Atmosphere though. I'm also going to see Sinead O'Connor with Sly and Robbie. I have no idea what that's going to be like and I bought tickets on a whim.
btw, I saw Sigur Ros with a very high fever and a nose that was running like a river. It was still amazing. :p
I need friends who like concerts as much as Alruggs. When I saw Jonathan Richman, my friends left in the middle of his set. :(

the last show the dr and i saw together was black sheep and z-trip. before that, we saw heiroglyphics and non phixion. more recently, he saw hank III. i knew better than to go with him that night -- he was obnoxiously drunk. i maybe dealt with him like that for 20 minutes, and that was far too long.
example:
he was passing out at the bar when i arrived, so i slid his beer over to drink it myself. he wakes up and sees that and gets pissed and says "the fuck are you?" me: "i'm the voice of reason, that's who." five minutes later, he asks: "when did you get here?"
i don't see anything coming up through mid november.

I went to the hives a few weeks ago, just before that millencolin, just before that QOTSA, and coming up oasis, meredith music festival (which has Blackalicious, The Avalanches, The Kills, Cut Copy, The Mess Hall, Okkervil River, Stephen Malkmus and the jicks, wolfmother, architecture in helsinki, you am i and British india among others), and big day out. I wanted to go to falls, but the lineup was mediocre and I have to work.

I usually only go to maybe 2-3 concerts a year. As much as I like seeing live shows, I prefer only going to a show that I'll know a majority of the songs they end up playing.
Living only a 45 minute trainride away from NYC, I have the chace to see almost every act at one time or another, I'd just rather hold out for the concerts that I know I'll enjoy from start to finish.

Comes and goes. Soemtimes it seems like there are loads of people we want to see, and then other times not so many. In August we saw Social Distortion, and also Iggy and the Stooges. And someone else maybe too, I forget now. We saw Mudhoney in September. Nothing for October, not for me anyway - mr.p went to see the Fall last week but I wasn't feeling well so I stayed home and drank lots of ginger lemon tea instead. Next I think is Bob Dylan on the 23rd.

Fishbone is still around!? Wow! That's pretty interesting.
too bad the show fell through for us as they were several hours late and we had both made previous engagements for the later part of the evening.

word!
I can't afford too many shows. Around here, small venues and small bands charge 20 bucks. I liked it in DC when I paid 10 bucks with no service charge.
:( oh well.
