The Senate-approved package would reduce government spending in all areas apart from defence and national security between 2006 and 2010.
It would cut $16bn from education and healthcare programs and $3bn in agricultural subsidies.
Controversially, it also paves the way for drilling to take place in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to exploit energy reserves.
Senator Judd Gregg, Senate Budget Committee chairman, said the budget measures would ensure the government started to live within its means.
Democrats said the act would be invalidated by separate Republican tax-cutting proposals - currently being tabled in the House of Representatives - adding $70bn to the deficit.

what's the use of "defending" a bunch of dumb, sick people?

The point is that it gives justification to and legitimises mercenarism. Your army is a big employer. Keeps people who'd otherwise be unemployed and robbing liquor stores, or rioting protesting their poor lot in life busy. And without the myth of "defending" ideals, these people might not be so comfortable about being mercenaries, paid killers. Scum.

It's a sophistry that allows the waging of wars, which are an end in themselves.

So it's unanimous?

Both Republican and Democrat BB Board Memebers agree that this package is a complete fuckup?

I mean, how could ANYONE defend a REDUCTION in spending on education, healthcare and agriculture... fairly important factors in any economy, as well as tax cuts which result in another 70 billion dollaz being added to the budget!

Talk about stealing from the poor to give to the rich!!!

Yep.

As currently constituted, it's a complete piece of crap.

The Omnibus bill that comes from the House-Senate Committee BETTER be significantly different.

Dude.....this is the way it ALWAYS is!

It happens worldwide.

ALL economic systems that have been implemented by human beings have their haves and their have-nots.

The biggest difference in the US is the ability to move up and down the economic ladder in a lifetime.

Most people are "poor" at least at some point in their lives. Children do not generally earn their keep, thus they embody "poor." Even the rich usually have setbacks that cause poorness at some point.

The point in the US is that the system gives the opportunity, to those who work the system, to move up by their labor and ingenuity. Many other systems punish you for individual productivity.
