I was wondering about this today. I first came here late 98 early 99 and missed the talk about hello nasty before it came out. What was it like here on the board? Was everyone disapointed that it sounded nothing like Ill Communication?

Set the vibe for me

This would have been a awsome time on the boards. Wish I was here then.

No, I was not dissappointed. Da Boys gave us an idea of what to expect early on. They had explained that the album was being recorded in a submarine. That symbolized the complete cleansing that we can only receive through da Boys' music. Just as treasure comes from the depths of the sea, so also our soul's cleansing comes from this. After a spiritual drought that comes from ignoring the truth, our souls were so refreshed during our cleansing that we just wanted to stand there and take it all in.

Well, at the time, there was no "message board" as we know it. There was a group called "Beastielist" where you could subscribe via email. Every thread was sent to your email inbox! So it was very difficult to get through everything.

However, it was still a very exciting time.

I still remember when they released intergalactic. They broke it out in chunks, so we'd get like the first 15 seconds one day. A few days later, they gave us some lyrics. And so on.

There were lots of false rumours being purposefully spread by the Beastie Boys and others that most people believed.

Actually, during the LTI days, you could join their fan club by sending a self addressed envelope to an address listed some wheres in the cassette cover. I sent one but no one ever answered back.

What did it say on the LTI cover? "For fanclub info & bullshit..." and then a mailing address for the fanclub

Something like that. When I was 8 years old in 1986, I scribbled on that part because I didnt want my parents finding that and throwing my worn out BBoys tape out.

Class of 96 representin? LOL

I had to have my friend (well, his older brother) bootleg me a copy of LTI because mom saw them talking about their nasty lyrics on Oprah and was like, "no way!"

Yup... I let my friend copy my tape over this Scholastic Books narration of "Happy Birthday, Moon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0671664549/104-7187630-7147913?v=glance&n=283155&st=%2A&v=glance)". When my original cassette snapped, I snatched that copy back.

Bwahahah... Licenced to Ill over a copy of "Happy Birthday, Moon" - this yellow tape. I think I still have that one somewhere, in the original LTI cassette case of course.

if you want to see the old beastie boys sites or grand royal use the link below. Its a site that saves a few pages of most bigger sites on the net in a "cache". Anyway type www.beastieboys.com or www.granroyal.com in the wayback machine box then click "take me back" and see the old sites. It's a blast from the past....the sites are usually broken and missing images but you can still sort of see them

Looks as of though the grandroyal website was run better than beastieboys.com back in the day. With many more updates than this site.

(Which didnt change until right before to the 5 boroughs)

to get people to vote...

So he urged people to vote?

That's interesting because I saw an interview in 2000 with him and when he was asked if he will vote he said "No comment"

Oh my god! Thanks phade1! (y)

I remember back then I had no direct access to a computer with internet on it. Whenever I got to one I would immediately go to beasteboys.com and try to figure out the spaceship thingy. Man was I computer illiterate then! However, I remember making my 1st internet purchase ever off of Grandroyal.com. This was at my friend's university computer lab in PA. I think I ordered the root down ep on vinyl and a moistboyz cd and stickers of course. Ahhhh memories.

You can go back in time. But you may only visit times later than the moment of the time machine's construction.

In 1996 this (http://www.computermuseum.li/Testpage/UNIVAC-1-FullView-B.htm) is what it took to check out the B-Boys' site or just check your email (then your electricity bill shot up 300% the next month). :D
