so today, if youz in NYC or NJ, you gotta go vote. so stop scratching your ass and go pull a lever.

in nyc, it's about the borough presidents and the mayor. the repubican, the incumbent bloomberg, is probably a better candidate than the democrat, ferrer. that's sad because really, bloomberg aint THAT great of a choice either. that's sad.

as for jersey, all i know is that this is a very important election for governor. and it's close and it means a lot to the future legislature of jersey.

so... vote. it's your future these fuckers are messing with.

Are mayoral elections really that important over there? Here its really just a joke, I'm pretty sure the people put themselves up for election just so they can slap it on their resume when they apply for a job at the local maccas (mcdonalds).

I already voted like a month ago. Absentee ballot. So I'm sorted.

in the land of oz its compulsory to vote. if u dont, u goto jail. (or get a nasty letter, i can't remember which). i think its a good thing, mostly. altho last election my mate went to vote and just drew a giant penis on his voting slip. (yes that right, we still use pieces of paper, none of this corrupt dodgy electronic voting hooey). i reckon in the US, the elections are pre determined anyway, they are just pretending and going thru the motions of 'democratic process'. how else would bush get in again??? or the first time for that matter?? the US is probably the least democratic democracy. im sure youve all heard of the diebold voting scandals. here is where i would put a link to a voting sham related story if i knew where one was on the net.

Its not compulsory to vote other than in state and federal elections. Council elections are optional.

Well no, because I've never voted yet, but I can't remember my parents ever having to vote for councillors. I mean the local newspaper does a tiny little article on the elections every couple of years but it doesnt say anywhere that everyone has to vote. I could be wrong. I probably should have said "I think" council elections are optional in the last post :o

I'm pretty sure that , at least in Victoria (http://www.aec.gov.au/_content/what/enrolment/forms/vic.pdf) (well and NSW actually cause my friend once got a fine for not voting the council elections), it is compulsory to vote in local council elections as well as state and federal.

my local election is fairly boring this time around.

the city will get a new mayor, but with a 5D to 1R ratio, its almost a shoe in who will win. in fact, i saw the republican guy for the first time on the news last night, so if he hasnt done that much, then thats his own problem

but i am getting picked up at some point today to go home and pull my levers, as i do every year.

So far I've taken two subjects: modern politics (general theories and crap) and global politics. Neither have anything whatsover to do with domestic politics. Plus the crappiness of the local council campaigns just totally makes it seem as if it couldnt possibly be compulsory.
