What are you remembering?

It's an identical holiday to Veterans' Day in the States. Remembering those who fought in wars...

CJM

i disagree. i hope that people always remember, and that there will be never total war like that again. war sucks.

hmm i was unaware other countries besides aus/nz did this
then again i know nothing about war
i don't do the minutes silence thing
it kind of feels.... forced. if i want to remember the soldiers i will do so when i remember them. not on a certain day.

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, Canadians are asked to pause and remember the thousands of men and women who sacrificed their lives fighting for freedom and democracy during the First World War, the Second World War, the Korean War and during peacekeeping missions.

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

- John McCrae, 1915

I remember (I remember) ohhhhhhh
when we used to hang
On the porch, drinkin brew
and now they drive-by (bay-bay)
I remember (I remember) ohhhhhhh
when we used to play
shoot-em-up, up and down
but now they gang-bang (bay-bay)

Better off if we didn't remember.

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

Strange, even when we remember it...things are repeated.

Shit quote. Regardless, things will always repeat.
Everything's kinda shit in your little world, is what I'm gathering.

I didn't realise it was rememberence day till after 11am but on my way past the RSL i stopped at their momument and remembered.

I used to feel that it didn't warrent my attention or that it wasn't worth remembering until I learned more about my great-grandads involvment in the war and realised that it doesn't matter how screwed up the reasons were behind it, those that fought in it were just regular people and deserve our respect.

I can't believe you Canadians get a day off. As for the rest of the country, normal day for me, but I am going to visit one of the 10 surviving war veterans up North in December.

Oh and I lost my poppy. :(

call me unpatriotic, but i dont support troops for going to war. especially if its something stupid like the war in iraq, where there happen to be many canadians.

I concur. Rememberance Day (formally Armistice Day) sends out mixed messages, as it is as much about glorifying murder as it is about mourning the tragedy of war.
