The US during the Revolution AND during the War of 1812.
The Germans attacked Canadian shipping that was going to Britain during WWII.
Canadians fought and died during WWI & WWII on the Entente and Allied sides, respectively.
Plus, Canada is just freaking far away from everything else and the winters suck ass......

My point was that Canada (and the US, BTW) have rarely been attacked in history because we're both quite far away from most other nations around the world.
The Germans and Japanese in WWII could only really attack our shipping, not our land masses (although, as an interesting aside, the Japanese DID manage to launch some balloons that landed in the US and DID have a mini-plane launch from a submarine that dropped a few bombs in the woods in Oregon, but those are stories for another day....).

Nuclear energy is cheap, clean, plentiful and virtually endless... but, as usual, there's a catch.
I personally advocate two things:
1) using less energy more efficiently
2) spending the money, currently being poured into looking for more oil, on finding ways to generate power from other sources.
Energy's all around us, man, like we just have to, like find a way to, like harness it man (pass the bong).
Fortunately, it looks like the astronomical oil prices and the trouble in the oil-rich areas is driving (haha) us that way. We just have to get the Oil Men out of the White House, disband the CIA and get somebody like Nader in Office and all will be well.
It's fun here in La La land.
P.S. I hear they are about to legalise the Weed in Vacouver! Apparently this is so that they can deal with all the smack addicts.

That is the billion-zillion-gazillion euro question!
Nuclear energy is cheap, clean, plentiful and virtually endless... but, as usual, there's a catch.
I personally advocate two things:
1) using less energy more efficiently
2) spending the money, currently being poured into looking for more oil, on finding ways to generate power from other sources.
Energy's all around us, man, like we just have to, like find a way to, like harness it man (pass the bong).
Fortunately, it looks like the astronomical oil prices and the trouble in the oil-rich areas is driving (haha) us that way. We just have to get the Oil Men out of the White House, disband the CIA and get somebody like Nader in Office and all will be well.
It's fun here in La La land.
P.S. I hear they are about to legalise the Weed in Vacouver! Apparently this is so that they can deal with all the smack addicts.

I guess the query becomes if there exists a truly finite amount of energy to exploit or not. It takes a TON of energy to get nuclear reactions going and sustained to employ as usable energy. AND, it takes power lines, and the ability to store the waste.
Living in Nevada, where they're looking at storing most of the nuclear waste in the US, I guess the whole subject hits kinda close to home.

I think it might be something to do with Canada not being a war-loving aggressive nation that hates muslims or backs human rights abuses in the middle east and also something to do with not ever having invaded anyone, deposed or destabilised democratically elected governments.

And the Nazis turned the steel into WHAT?
The US and Canada and the USSR and Britain and France and ALL the allies of WWII DID depose Hitler and his cronies.....Hitler just cheated us all by offing himself before he could be "formally" deposed.
Goering and Himmler did the same AFTER they were caught. A bunch of the other higher up Nazis were tried (Nuremburg) and were convicted and sentenced....some to death and others to long prison terms.
Sounds very much like what has happened in Iraq.
BTW, Sadaam was NOT minding his own business all those years in power : he went after Iran, the Kurds and Kuwait formally....and was threatening Saudi Arabia before the UN stepped in and, under US military command, ousted his ass out of Kuwait and created no-fly zones over the Kurds and Shiites.
But....I'm sure you all have you're rhetoric ready about how all this is supposedly SOOOO different than what is occurring in Iraq.....

I think the goverment should keep pouring money into such extreme solutions as complete electric or hydrogen power , so that they fail miserably and are rejected by the American people. As opposed to Biodiesel and other less "difficult" changes.
