"Three terror bombings that killed at least 56 people at three hotels in Jordan's capital sparked furious protests against al Qaeda today after a Web site carried a claim that the group was behind the attacks. The Associated Press reported that hundreds of angry Jordanians rallied in Amman shouting, "Burn in hell, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi!"

bought fuckin time they blamed the terrorists instead sympathizing with them and just blaming America/western world.

THAT is how you begin to defeat terrorism....

Al-Zarqawi's Al Qaeda in Iraq claimed responsibility for the bombings in a Web site posting, and linked them to its Islamist beliefs.

CNN cannot verify the authenticity of the Web site claims, but U.S. intelligence officials said they "view that claim as credible."

Can't remember which paper I read it in, but it was reported after the British soldiers got busted out of that Iraqi jail. Two blatantly foreign men were seen acting suspiciously around parked cars by a bunch of Iraqi civillians and some police, they were discovered to have explosives and were just about to get mobbed when a hummer rolls up out of nowhere, the two guys jump in covered by a squad of US troops, and ZOOM, off they go into the big blue yonder. There was some fuss over it.

I'm guessing it was the Guardian, but it was mentioned on the beeb too I think. I put it down to a misunderstanding or scaremongering, but without the usual handwringing, etc it seemed to get brushed under the carpet rather too neatly. Usually we get some big denials and rhetoric from the usual faces.

I agree. While the West has its role of wrongdoing, people seem to forget that it's a two-way street when it comes to this sort of thing. The Middle East also needs to clean house.

A confidential memo circulating among senior Republican leaders suggests that a new attack by terrorists on U.S. soil could reverse the sagging fortunes of President George W. Bush as well as the GOP and "restore his image as a leader of the American people."

The closely-guarded memo lays out a list of scenarios to bring the Republican party back from the political brink, including a devastating attack by terrorists that could “validate” the President’s war on terror and allow Bush to “unite the country” in a “time of national shock and sorrow.”

The memo says such a reversal in the President's fortunes could keep the party from losing control of Congress in the 2006 midterm elections.

GOP insiders who have seen the memo admit it’s a risky strategy and point out that such scenarios are “blue sky thinking” that often occurs in political planning sessions.

A number of Israelis staying yesterday at the Radisson SAS were evacuated before the bombing by Jordanian security forces, apparently due to a specific security alert. They were escorted back to Israel by security personnel.

The Foreign Ministry stated yesterday that no Israeli tourists are known to have been injured in the blasts. Representatives of Israel's embassy in Amman were I contact with local authorities to examine any report of injured Israelis, but none were received. There are often a number of Israeli businessman and tourists in Amman, including in the hotels hit yesterday.

I dunno. Be it an actual terrorist attack or a staged one (as you seem to be alluding to) could backfire. I mean, Hurricane Katrina was just as bad as a terrorist attack and his "leadership" floundered there.

Qdrop is right on the money. Why is it so farfetched that Muslims would be pissed off that terrorists are blowing themselves up in Jordan? Why would there be a conspiracy? What is your problem, exactly? I had no idea members of Al Qaeda listen to the Beastie Boys and make posts to their website. If Al Qaeda listens to the Beastie Boys, what would be their favorite song? Maybe Intergalactic? Boomin Granny? I dunno-tough call.

9/11 was the best thing that ever happened to him. Not quite so nice for the 3000 who perished and their families.

Another attack is just what he needs... it can't be far away.

BTW, ace, nice Star Wars reference. Guess George Lucas is an OK capitalist in your book, eh?

Anyhow, as for the staging of all these incidents.....

It is a reminder that we should be afraid. People who are afraid are much more manageable. The timing of such incidents cannot be ignored or made off as simple coincidences.

The latest polls show the public would rather have democratic leadership now, although confidence in both parties is exceptionally low.
The time is now for a viable alternative to these two parties.

OK. Let's....

Flat tax or National Sales Tax?

Continuance of Roe v. Wade or leave it to the states?

Increased or decreased military budget?

Slashing of the Federal bureaucracy, even if it leads to a sharp (albeit temporary) uptick in unemployment?

Demolition of Federal departments (starting with HHS) and going from there?

These are just the start of the issues.. The real debate comes down to the vision of the country for the future and what we all want. That debate has multiple sides and warring factions all pushing for their agendas. There IS no "common-sense" middle ground when passions are inflamed and we are so disparate in our beliefs.

One side HAS to be the winner and the other side the "loser" for awhile....then it will shift back, most likely.....

No they don't. We have progressed to a point where we can't tread water anymore. There are just too many stupid people frankly. Best is to just leave well enough alone and worry about our own interests.

We cannot abide by future actions solely deemed fit by the greedy hungry few that are supposed to be in our best interests.
