I can't believe for a minute that he truly believed he would get 90 days to pass.

There's something fishy going on, I'm not sure what it is, but I don't like it.

The usual new labour trick is to go way over the odds, and then sucker people into accepting an artificially high 'compromise'.

It's called the "hi-ball" - salesmen use it all the time.

"Oh, it costs £300,000 ... But I like you, so I can knock £10,000 off. And I'll throw in this and that..."

All the while driving it down to a price that is still inflated. Well documented trick. They also use the "low-ball" (AKA the foot-in-the-door) which works by going under, but then working their way up relying on the social pressure not to change your mind and appear foolish or weak.

Yeah, I guess that would explain the gushing support he's had today from the rest of the big cheeses, I've only heard Claire Short come out against President Tony, but nobody listens to her. At least I'd hope they don't.
