I have been a vegetarian for most of my life and have been slowly trying to become vegan.
I have always felt animals are sacred and important and that they suffer, think, hurt, cry, smile etc.. just like humans.
Has anyone else watched any of the videos on peta's website?
Peta gets alot of crap, but I am an activist for animal rights and I was horrified at some of the videos they had. I encourage you all to check it out.
Many times meat eaters will come up to me and say, its human nature to eat meat, or animals on those farms are treated well. All of this is dispelled by the videos on the site.
Animals in slaughterhouses, circuses, animal testing etc... is far from ethical and these videos show why.
So once again, I encourage you all to go visit Peta.org
and visit the website for their videos http://www.petatv.com/
In addition, I encourage you all to look into vegetarianism and veganism, who wants to eat the stuff on these videos? I mean these animals arent just kindly killed, as Native Americans did long ago, these animals are BUTCHERED and ABUSED.
J CREW the clothing store, has a factory in a different country and they sell fur, the videos show animals being stepped on, and animals being packed into cages and then dropped onto the ground.'
DONT EAT MEAT ON THANKSGIVING!
Give the Turkeys a chance to give thanks as well

Remember one thing
happy cows = more money
Every farm ive been to, which is more than a few, have had very nice living conditions for the animals. So most of the time, they do have a decent life up untill the time i eat them. mmm beef
Same goes with milk cows. Unhealthy milk cows cant produce nearly as much milk as they would if they were healthy and taken care of.
And Peta? All they have shown to me is that they are a bunch of crazys hell bent on getting rid of meat eaters. Or humans in general.
Im going to try and get the biggest turkey for thanks giving.
off topic, but is there an introductary forum?

Oh, and it's this shoving-vegetarianism-down-my-throat* shit that makes vegetarians come off like pricks. Seriously, I can understand the arguments for being a vegetarian, and I am fully aware that my eating of meat is purely because I like its sweet, bloody taste. But I focus on other shit, you know? You focus on animals, I'll focus on other shit.
And P. Diddy (Puff Daddy? What the hell, I don't care anymore) just wanted to attend his gun trial and THOSE TERRORISTS STALKED HIM AND THREW TOMATOES. I think. If it was, indeed, tomatoes, why tomatoes? Or that might've been a fashion show of his. Either way, fruit of the red variety was involved and it befuddles the fuck out of me.
*In case you yourself didn't spot it, along with your general tone, it's when you mentioned PETA and said this:
In addition, I encourage you all to look into vegetarianism and veganism, who wants to eat the stuff on these videos? I mean these animals arent just kindly killed, as Native Americans did long ago, these animals are BUTCHERED and ABUSED.
and this:
DONT EAT MEAT ON THANKSGIVING!
Give the Turkeys a chance to give thanks as well
Okay, the latter one just made you sound stupid, but it was pushy in a way.

I did. I was a vegetarian for a few years. I don't think it's a natural lifestyle. I think eating meat is what we are evolutionarily designed for. I'm quite opposed to factory farming, though, so I eat certified organic meats from traceable sources, mainly family or smaller scale farms that comply with the stringent animal welfare codes of the Soil Association and other such certifying bodies. My conscience is quite happy with that.

I wouldn't want to seem like I'm not disgusted with their tactics (PETA's), so no I won't look at those. But Im sure going back to our roots would make them happy, smashing pigs in the head with large mallots, and killing cows however we used to do it, maybe with a bunch of arrows, or sharp stone tools.
Also any person who tells me their are trying to save animals by not eating them, then stop living in you're house, drink all the fresh water, and use millions of products.
I also suggest giving lions guns, so that they don't inhumanely slowly kill their prey by crushing their esophagus .

Heh, my sister has got me tired with her half-assed veaganism. I bought "For every animal you save I will eat 3" shirt for just that reason. It's always a bitch when we go out and shes all "eww meat" and I suggest she eat nothing and watch me eat my medium rare NY Strip.
Truth be told lions with .50s strap to their backs would be kick ass efficient killing machines.

I just had a thought today, as I passed some stupid vegitarian girl I knowl:
I'm going to wait until she or one of her ilk start eating some sort of gelatin, and then laugh at their stupid faces as I tell it's made from ground-up bone.
I can only imagine the look on their faces.
That'll be some funny shit right there.

Anthropomorphism. They don't do thinks "like humans" any more than plants do. On the whole.

I'm just saying, you'd look all rubbish and shit if you started haranguing a bunch of vegans for eating jellies and they just looked at you and went "Dude, it's made with seaweed."
You should be thanking me, you know.

I'll do it WHILE eating a cheesburger, that way, even I'm wrong, I'm still right, that way, I win and they lose.

no, my point here is that many people left of center (which the majority of this board is), seem to get upset when christian push their religion on people yet don't seem to mind with animal rights people do the same in regards to vegetarianism....
both are the same yet they are treated different in my opinion..

That's what I mean. Read the posts. The pushy vegetarians piss me off just as much as pushy Christians, and I do believe a lot of others on the board feel the same way. I personally hate those PETA people outside of the student union who yell at the students who come out of McDonalds. They should let me get my McNuggets in peace, seeing as how nothing they say to me is going to stop my craving for delicious cheap chicken.
People pushing THEIR agenda on me makes me agitated, especially when there's no chance of convincing me. There's certain stuff that you can't argue with people about. I grew up with delicious meat, believing in equal rights, women's right to choose, no organized religion, and that's the way I like it. If I wanted to change how I was, or challenge what I grew up knowing, I would have done it when I became a rebellious teenager. Pretty much everyone my age is now set in their ways, so I really don't understand people who argue with a purpose to convert.

You clearly missed the vegetarian/vegan thread in BF a few months ago.
I feel bad for people like zorra and cosmo who get crap for not eating meat, even though they don't push their views on others. But Cheguevara6 deserves all the shit flung at him. "DONT EAT MEAT ON THANKSGIVING! Give the Turkeys a chance to give thanks as well" What the hell kind of shit is that? If you want people to listen to you don't be a pushy little snot.

Hah, triple quarter pounder with bacon, wrapped in veal, HOLD THE LETTUCE!
That's what Im talking about, whatever happened to eating super endangered species for fun and because we have the resources to. I mean sure it tastes just like chicken, but there are only 2,000 left in the WORLD! And you just ate one, OMG.

When animals can talk or write, then they can tell me how bad it feels.
Until then, I couldn't care less. I eat whatever the fuck I want. As long as I can pay for it, who gives a fuck, right? We're all capitalist. :)

fuck peta, they're an organization that's all about getting money and not at ALL "all about the animals."
and happy cows? come on now. that's a lie. most farms DO mistreat animals. i don't think peta has faked any of their footage. and the way they're killed and the way the meat is handled is awful as well. even if i wasn't vegetarian for ethical reasons, i wouldn't want to eat that shit. gack.
a lot of vegetarians are crusaders that make people think all vegetarians are assholes that want to make them feel guilty for their eating choices. while i think the world would be a much better place if more people didn't eat meat or use animal products, and i have a deep love for any and all animals and can't stand the thought of them being hurt, i respect others' decisions.
and don't make assumptions about anyone just because he or she isn't carnivorous.
