I used to eat this when I was dead broke. It lacks a certain something, but I've yet to figure out exactly what that might be. I would almost say sausage but I know you are not trying to hear that.

*stolen from cookbook*

Low-Fat Black Beans and Rice

1 can black beans, rinsed
1 can mexican-style stewed tomatoes, undrained ( you might want to chop them)
1 med. onion, chopped
4 minced cloves garlic
cayenne pepper to taste

In a saucepan cook onion and garlic in oil until tender. Add beans, tomatoes, and pepper. Bring to boil, then reduce heat and simmer, uncovered for 15 minutes.
Serve on mounds of hot, cooked rice. Use brown rice if possible. Whole grains are better for you and if you are trying to lose weight refined and processed starches are not the answer.

Not the best recipe ever but whip up some cornbread (full fat, no butter) and just think of all the calories you saved.

Here's a 'keep snacking to a mimimum' tip for you:

1 - East a good big handful of dried apple rings.

2 - Drink a huge glass or two of water.

The water will make the apple rings expand in your stomach, and help minimise your 'hungry' feelings between meals.

Also, if you are a veggie and you want a plethora of low-fat ideas, get someone to get you this book for Christmas. (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0517884941/002-6269051-0004837?v=glance) Or Chanukah or Kwanzaa or whatever it is you're into.

Would that work with dried banana as well then?.

I made that black bean and rice thing today, although i had to do my own tomatos cause i couldn't find any mexican-style ones.I was really good :)

not so much, because they probably won't expand as much as the apples.

limit your eating after a certain time of day. don't eat anything for at least an hour before going to bed. eat whole, unrefined carbs (oatmeal, whole grain breads, brown rice) in the morning and at lunch, but afterward, stick with protein like beans or soy products mixed with brown rice. and try to avoid refined, starchy white foods in general (white bread, pasta, chips, etc.).

drink TONS of water. however much you weigh in pounds - multiply that by .49, and that's how many ounces of water you should drink a day. it'll seem like a lot, but eventually you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

and get active. even if it means just walking. half an hour a night, an hour a night...work your way up to running. you don't need a gym membership for that. you could invest in some freeweights to tone your arms and such, too. those are pretty inexpensive.

good luck! :)

I can drink that much water,i'll just drink it instead of the about 5 letres or soda i drink a day  .

Cutting out alcohol would help to right.

diet soda is sweetened with artificial shit (and yes, splenda is artificial too) that leads to all kinds of different problems down the road. it's just caramel color and carbonated water (which isn't that good for you either) and artificial shit...stick with water. it's what we're meant to drink.

I heard it's because asparthame triggers the hunger button in your brain and helps you overeat.

The carbonation also helps you retain water weight. I cut out all soda in my diet and it helped me lose 20 pounds two years ago. Just last week I drank about 5 glasses of tea (tea and coffee alone have little to no calories), and I lost about 4 pounds of water weight. The more water you drink, the more crap you'll flush out of your system.
