k, so i'm at the bar, which coincidentally has quite a solid dance floor, a good 100 people were on it dancin away, at about 1 AM last night, (including myself haha), when the band announces that it's their last song before closing time...then all of a sudden I hear the riff for "fight for your right", and i start going NUTS! I have to say, that (and this is an impartial statement) everybody really got into it during this song, everybody knew the words, and were singing their ASSES OFF! it was just frickin great...also, earlier in the evening a dj played "girls" too which was pretty funny...has anybody else ever heard any beasties played in clubs, bars, pubs etc. by bands or by a dj (or have any good stories similar to this)???

Theres this dude I know, him an his friends know the Beasties. They put on my Ill Communication CD when I went there with this chicks sister, (cause she was mates with these dudes). And I was stoked to see they were singin along with Get It Together an Do It an shit. And one of the dudes was gonna be scratching at this local bar and said I should come. So I went down there and he saw me then changed vinyl's and pointed to me and played Open Letter, he didnt mix it but he like mixed a background voice goin ye ye ye yeah or some shit. It was cool. It was just the first people in my town I know that knew other Beastie songs besides the typical ones people know.

I have heard "Fight for Your Right", and "Brass Monkey", many times here in the Chicago downtown clubs/bars.

There is this bar here in the $ears T0wer that will play "Hey Ladies", "Sabatoge", and one time "Pass the MIc". I was just about the only guy who happen to know the lyrics to Pass the Mic. I imagine the bartender was a big fan of the Beasties considering it was his CD.

When I lived in the States, this club I used to go to most Saturday nights played Brass Monkey at some point...crowd seem to love. The only other time a DJ played Beastie tracks was at my wedding....fucker had no choice!!..lol. I put a cd together with my favs on it, and stomped away gleefully. The best thing is, most people loved the atmosphere I created with my goffy dancing...I told the DJ, keep the CD...he grinned and said I didn't know these guys were so banging!

:) thats good shit... I kinda did the same at my wedding, except I had to be the DJ.... Allso When I spin out at parties, and or bars, I usually drop some kind of B-Boy remix record, no matter what kind of set I am playing...

I have been to a bar before where they have played brass monkey, a club where they have played fight for your right, there is bar that will play interglatic (inxs, ac/dc mashup) or sure shot every saturday

last time i was dj'ing a high school dance i decided to slip brass monkey into the playlist and it cleared the dance floor, only a few kids danced to it

I guess it just shows you that the youth these days have no taste

I'll tell this here:

One night, last year of college. We got to Harry's Chocolate Shop on a weeknight (cookie for anyone who knows where that bar is).

Anyway, it's pretty slow for Harry's. They have a jukebox on the wall and if you choose a song on a Monday night, you might here it if you come back on the weekend.

Anyway, I know IlllComm is on the box from past experience. As were chilling, i notice, no music! The jukebox is actually out of plays?

So, I pump some change in and select "Root Down." I tell my buddy watch this.

We're on the stairs overlooking a majority of the bar. The first few bits of the track come on and, god damnit, I wish I had a camera.

The whole bar goes from dead, to bobbin' heads, shucking and jiving, straight up partying.

No one really knew it was Bboys, shit I don't even think they knew a song came on. But it was great. People who were in conversations, still in conversatiosn, but no dancing ever so slightly.

It was majic.

well, for the Green Day American Idiot tour, their cd of music before they hit is the stage is always the same, and Beastie Boys, Fight for your Right, is usually the 2nd to last song before Green Day hits the stage, and everyone is singing the chorus, fairly loud in the area. That happened in both 2004 and 2005 dates i saw them. And U2 had CH-check it out playing before they hit the stage too. It sure sounded nice hearing bboys in loud stadiums.

haha cool, i posted this a while ago, but at the seattle supersonics game 1 last year, i heard ch-check it out and triple trouble within 2 songs of each other in the pre-game warm up ...the lady next to me was bouncing her baby around to it, then her husband grabbed the baby and started moving it's arms as if it was rapping lol

First time i heard beasties at a club was when i beg and pleaded for this hot chick to go up to the dj and request 'intergalactic' which he finally played.

Here in Morgantown we have a 80's/90's bar where i request so whatcha want, sabotage and hey ladies everytime i go. I have also heard fight for your right and brass monkey as well.

Its funny because the dj is always like "so what beasties song you want tonight" hehehe. I remember this one time dancing to 'hey ladies' and this group of girls came up and danced with me while singing the lyrics. Good times!

(crowd there is usually in the mid 20's age range, so they actually respect good music)

I was in a pub (American Translation : Public house / bar ) last week and they had this amazing jukebox which not only played the song of your choice but played the video on TVs around the building. So I typed a search for the beasties thinking they might at least have Intergalactic, and it came up with fight for your right, No sleep till brooklyn, sabotage, intergalactic, ch-check it out, triple trouble and open letter....."noice" I thought as I placed my money in the slot and selected them all. About a month ago I walked into a local bar and heard Sure Shot. One of the bouncers walked past me mouthing the words to it. Then later that night the DJ put on So Whatcha Want. It was cool.

At my school dance (that was in October), my mission was to get the DJ to play a Beasties song. Everyone was on the dancefloor boogying down and having a good time. Well, I was trying to think of a way to get the DJ to play a B-Boy song,( whenever I would ask him he would say no) Well, right when I was about to give up, they announced that pizza had just arrived and you can buy some well, I went and bought 2 pieces, and went on the stage behind the DJ and when he played a slow song, I said "Hey, arent you going to have some pizza?" (already knowing that he couldnt have none) and he was like "no, but it looks really good." thats when I put my plan into action. I said "listen, I will give you these two pieces of pizza if you play two Beastie Boy songs." He thought about for a few seconds and then said "fine, what songs?" And I am like Brass Monkey and Ch-check it out" And he is like "I dont think anyone will dance to it," and I was like "well lets see." Boy did I prove him wrong. Not even 5 minutes later the beginning of Brass Monkey came on and everyone filled the dance floor. Everyone made a circle around me and cheered me on as I sang every word and break danced to it. And when Check it out came on, the same thing happened. The DJ was shocked and told me to make a list of songs that I think people would dance to. (I always include a B-Boy song). But the day after the dance all the kids were like "you really know how to party" or "boy can you dance and rap". But I am glad that he played B-boys. (even though it costed me 2 slices of pizzas)
oh, and they played Brass Monkey at my cousins wedding. (!) (y) :D

most the time when i dj a high school dance or a wedding if I play beasties only a few people will dance to it

but that does not stop me from playing the in sound from way out as dinner music

i once played song for junior at a christmass party (during dinner) and this old couple (must have been 65-75) got up and started dancing to it

Nah, not at all. So Watcha Want is not a song to be danced to by a stripper.

When my fave club closed the DJ team put on lots of Beasties on the last night. Great goodbye, since the staff smashed all the glasses & bottles on the floor instead of putting them away.
I been DJing two times now (read: putting in CDs and using the crossfader, I'm not a real DJ) in my fave bar. First time was during the Oktoberfest and I put on mostly BB, DJ Shadow and Dead Kennedys. Most BB stuuf was from the Dr Numbers remix or the "golden age" classics e.g. No sleep till Brooklyn, Fight for your right, Pass the mic, Sure shot etc. The Oktoberfest crowd liked it a lot, rocking out and swear to god, it went down smooth on the ladies too. ;)
If anyone of you guys and gals is in Munich on Dec 21st, drop by the "Bank" in Müllerstr. for my next gig.
