misdemeanors, at worst, can get up to a year in jail.
3rd degree felonies, which is what i'll be handling for right now, can get up to five years in prison.
Will you give complimentary gifts to your clients? I suggest a gift bag filled with soap on a rope and a butt plug.
Congrats!

i prefer to give unsolicited advice.
for example: i had a client who had at least 3 domestic violence battery charges in the 9 months i knew him. my advice: get a girlfriend who doesn't call the cops when you hit her.
Ha!

isn't that one of those "lawyer-client confidentiality" things?

lawyer can be good or full of corruption
my bf had to go to court,so he did go see a supposedly good lawyer.
the charge where 500$ for the case
today we receive paper that to go further on,we have to pay 3500$ or else the lawyer is not gona represent!
what this is all about?

Wouldn't better advice be: don't hit your girlfriend so she doesn't have to call the cops?
Or are you going along the lines of: when you hit her...make sure you break her fingers so she can't dial the phone?
Anyway, congratulations!

bob: i'm technically still undefeated; my last trial that went to verdict was a draw -- one count not guilty, the other guilty. my last trial as a misdemeanor attorney was yesterday, but the state dropped it during jury selection. i was kinda bummed because i could have used another win; you don't win many felonies.

Hey Beth,
Curious question: Have message board internets transcripts ever been used by a DA to incriminate a client? Are they admissable? I've read in last weeks Time emails that were sent to or from Michael Brown, Tony Rudy, and Cheryl Long that were major lacks of judgements/foot in mouth disasters...Just curious
Are you a Public Defender? If so, the best lawyer I ever had was a Public Defender. The embellishments that came out of this mans mouth made me wonder who he was talking about

i am indeed a public defender. people think we're stupid and are at the bottom of our law school classes and couldn't get any other jobs. the only thing stupid about most of us is putting up with the shit we get for such little pay. :)
mb internet transcripts are hearsay. hearsay is inadmissible unless it falls under an exception to the hearsay rule, like a statement against interest / admission by party opponent. if it fell under an exception, the defense attorney would try to keep it out by saying there's nothing linking the client to the account and no proof of the identify of the person who posted it, etc. whether such transcripts have ever been used, i don't know.
though it's best not to post it at all, it's a big internet, and to find a person on a message board wouldn't be easy unless you knew the person and knew what message boards they go to. hopefully, no specific details are provided that would make a google search result in a message board post that pops up in the first few pages of the search.
sidenote -- i work for the state, and my state's sunshine laws allow anyone who asks to have access to my emails. apparently the media did just that well before i started, and it was a huge mess.
on this other forum i post at, i've seen it happen repeatedly where they've been able to track down specific users. like this one time, it's actually a kind of funny story, this kid posted a suicide note type thing, where he made a post saying he was going to kill himself, then he didn't post anymore after that. so a few users, and i don't know how, managed to figure out his name, where he lived, a bunch of stuff, and they called the police department of the town he lived in and had them check out his house to make sure he was alright. long story short, he was faking it and he got banned, but it's pretty remarkably how quickly they were able to find him. i'm not sure how legal the methods were, but i imagine if you're lucky, you can track a person down using completely publicly available information.

Thanks for the reply and congradulations!
I know someone that was using the internet for some sort of get rich quick aka lose all your money ala Nigerian chain letter but much more slick, crafty and thought out than that old and busted routine. He told me a story of sending out an email to the wrong person. The response he got was "I know you're not in _______ and that you're actually in Bangkok~and although I don't know the exact address I do know within' a 1 kilometer radius of where you're located." This guy is an idiot though. I did an internet search on who owns the domain of his latest project and it says he's doing business in Chicago but has his own cell phone number here in BKK listed as the number....Not even a throw away number, it's his actual cell phone number.
Morans they come a dime a dozen.
