Holy crap! I just got back from the NIN/QOTSA/DFA79 show and I gotta tell you: I think this was the BEST concert I've been to. Ever. No joking around here.
I say this because I don't think I've witnessed a better lineup of bands than this one. Sure, I've been to shows where the headliner is awesome, but the opening bands are either really shitty or not that remarkable to get into (there's only been a few select occasions where the opening act managed to win me over despite my initial skepticism). Plus, there are concerts where you're just waiting FOREVER while the roadies are doing sound checks until the cows come home.
With this, very little waiting around between artists and the sound was IMPECCABLE (certainly better sound quality than many of the concerts that had tedious and long soundchecks).
It was a bit of a downer in-between NIN's set where the barricades were broken and they delayed the show for maybe 10 minutes to fix them. That kind of ruined the flow, but Trent Reznor was on top of his game regardless.
QOTSA obviously were awesome. They did a 10 minute (possibly longer) version of "No One Knows" (extended guitar solos, some bluesy guitar solos, an accapella portion, etc.) that blew my mind.
And DFA79 were also fantastic. It's great to see this indie band get to play arenas. They deserve it. They're getting excellent exposure and I hope it keeps up!
If any or all three of these bands blaze through your town, don't hesitate.
So yeah: AWESOME SHOW!
P.S. - I saw The Raveonettes on Sunday, as well. While they were amazing, the concert suffered from my above complaints (unremarkable opener, a soundcheck that took much longer than necessary and the end result left something to be desired in terms of the microphone quality for their vocals).
