C'mon people.

There are no samples whatsoever in this one.

The bassline was made using a Native Instruments Prophet 5 analogue synth emulator

All the beats were programmed using Fruityloops.

All other sounds were mapped out in Fruityloops using the Native Instruments Absynth plugin.

The whole track was sequenced in Acid 4, rendered to .wav and exported to Soundforge, where it was EQ'd using the PSP Vintage Warmer and finalised with a Waves Compressor.

Anyone who has taken the trouble to DL and listen, I'd appreciate a few words of opinion. It helps all of the producers to better themselves when we know what works and what doesn't.

Cheers

Thats a pretty nice mix - dark. I thought it could do with something else towards the end, not sure what though

I am using fruityloops myself but the rest of the stuff you mentioned i havent got a clue about. have you just used FL for the drums - i cant get mine that clean sounding. Sounds like you know what your doing - could you take a listen to this and let me know what you think

Cheers

OK. With your mix, it does sound a little muddy. I like it though - it's different.

What bitrate (or sampling rate) are you using in Fruity?

Are you using the sounds provided with fruity or are you using your own drum samples? If you are using your own drum samples, again, check the bitrate you save them in (if MP3's, only use 128kBps and above. If using .wav's - make sure you are using 44,100 sample rate - these will give you a cleaner sound)

When I use fruity, I use the Fruity Blood Overdrive facility for all beats (this is found by clicking the FX button). This little tool will add a nice bit of boost / grit to your beats, making the bass pound a little more and giving the mid-highs a little more oomph.

One more thing here, I always use 2 beats together - usually different beats. I find it gives me a more "dynamic" sound. If I use the one beat - I duplicate the channel so the same beat plays twice at the same time. You just get a little more depth. In fact, I often duplicate EVERY sample and pan them so one is playing to 65-75% on the right and the other 65-75% on the left. You can get a far more "open" sounding mix doing this. Just be sure to run some samples on the centre so there isn't a hole in the sound.

Also, with fruity, I map out a beat on it's own and save as a wav file. Then I right click, click INSERT CHANNEL and in the menu that opens up, choose a VST or DXI synth plugin. When it's open, right click the channel on the step sequencer and use piano roll to map out a bassline or main rhythm. Once I have one that sits with the beat, I save this on it's own as a wav.

I never use fruity to sequence an entire track. Just individual parts. I always use Acid for sequencing as I find this to be the easiest program. I find I can do more in Acid with regard to chopping parts up, using FX etc.

Every producer has thier own prefered ways of doing thier thing. I have been making tracks for almost 15 years now and I always find new ways of doing what I wished I could do in the past. I seriously suggest spending a lot of time finding Fruity and Acid user forums as these are the best source of new ideas. I am amazed at some of the tips and suggestions I find on these and each one helps towards elevating my sounds and methods.

Good luck.

Thanks very much for giving me loads of really good advice there, I've got a lot to do!I have been using FL for about a year - not really getting my head round it but i am sure your reply will help me a lot to get better.

I like practically all your stuff but this one Chro' . . . not really feeling it. The faster vocals kind of sound off to me.

Cool Shit! Reminds me of early Thomas Dolby stuff.

P.S.
I use the PSP Vintage Warmer as well, yum! :D (y)
