UN votes against US Cuba embargo (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3242077.stm)
The United Nations General Assembly has voted overwhelmingly for an end to the United States' 40-year-old economic embargo against Cuba.
The vote marks the 12th consecutive year that the assembly has called for an end to the blockade.

Only three nations voted against the motion - the US, Israel and the Marshall Islands. Two others abstained.Marshall Islands? Never heard of them. Is that some sort of superpower which has power of veto over the UN? Or is that somebody else?

Another reason to loathe America, eh?

One the one hand, I want to say yes of course, it is long overdue.

On the other hand, I know that as soon as it is over, it is only a matter of about 5 mintues until the first 50 Starbucks, McDonalds and Dunkin Donuts open their doors in Havana.

The embargo will end as soon as the Castros are out of power, I'd wager.

The MArshall Islands are an independent country that encompasses multiple islands in the Pacific, that were freed by the US during WWII from Japanese oppression. They were given their freedom in the 60's or 70's, I believe....
