I understand that they released a free dance video that provides over one hour of detailed instruction on all three salsa dances. It was available to club-goers at the Rumba Room in downtown Sarasota.

Yeah, well, the smurf was/is an actual dance in the early 80s but it was a dance that would not have been known by the general population, partly because, there are numerous styles of dances that are being thought of, one style may have been the shit to do, and then something brand new or good looking to do will put the previous style into the "that's old shit" category. Dance styles would be shown at house parties, or block parties, and if somebody is doing something good and cool looking it takes off from there and a name may be given to it. But, all these dance styles originate from, and just to let you all know, I'm not disrespecting when I say this, but these dance styles came from the ghettoes or projects, let me be clear about that, and would simply not be known by the 'mainstream' or as best as I can state it, the general public, because for starters, the casual, unknowing, uncaring, and frightened general population simply would not care to know what is going on in the ghettoes, regardless of whether a recreational form of socializing on a musical point is going down or not. That's just the straight, fuckin' facts. But, perhaps, you can find more information on the net.
The dance itself is a side to side bouncy rhythmic motion always, rocking on the beat. I had the Tommy Boy Records Greatest(circa 1982 or 83) Beats album and there is a track by Special Request called "Salsa Smurf" that is the jammy to rock the Smurf to. Anyway, I need time to jot down description of how to rock it. I just wanna read a few posts here, while I'm visiting.

let's not forget the "Rump-turner", that Horovitz does in the end of the So What'cha Want-video.
