We have a solid fuel heater as well as normal central heating. Having several ways to heat a home cuts down on the need to rely on the national network. This way, it's better for the enviroment and cheaper and warmer. Trust me, we'll all be going back more conventional ways of heating our homes when we realise we cannot be a consuming world for ever more...

It's not good for the enviroment but it's better - it is smokless coal which is a lot better than raw coal. Apart from renewable energy (which we have plans to do) it is better to create heat from the source of the fossil fuel. I don't know the exact amounts but if one bucket of coal can heat a large house of three floors then I'm pretty sure that is gonna be less than what a powerstation would of used in coal or gas to send it down all the pipes into our home. Cus there is no need to power what carries the power. The coal is delivered by truck to us and that obviously uses petrol and the machines they used to dig it and the process it uses to go smokeless. But I'm still willing to bet heating a home with solid fuel uses less of the natural resources.

I mean by solid fuel, wood and anything that burns that is solid - ie not gas or electric which ain't solid.

A better way for an easier life is to not think about the problem at all or try to be part of the solution. Let it be, not give a fudge, and just take what we want and waste the rest. [/sarcasm] :p

So yeah, I'm kinda into all this 'hippy' stuff as someone put it. It's all good karma for me. (y)

I already have one of those living in my discokitchen. His name's George.
