or them that put themselves on TV are.
I was just watching one of the news channels and there was talking about weather and about this cold weather that came in last night with snow. Some middle aged lady being interviewed was blaming the government for getting to work late. "Not enough is done by the government to combat travel problems when it snows" or simular.
I'm not a big fan of the government but I know they don't control the weather. If it's snowing and you cannot navigate your 4x4 three miles into a town centre in the normal time. Set off earlier, walk but for christ sakes get on with it.
I'm know I'm typical british here talking about the weather but I cannot beleive how helpless this nation becomes when a couple of inches of snow falls. It makes us look like wimps to the international community... It's weather, it happens every year, DEAL WITH IT!

I had no idea that this was such a rampant problem in The UK.

Ha ha ha, I remember like winter before last when it snowed about an inch and there were all these reports of people who were stranded on the motorway and trapped in their cars overnight, and trains were paralysed, and all manner of nonsense. Fucking crazy! I was working with this Polish guy at the time and he and I were having a good laugh about it. He said (with his fantastic Polish accent) "I do not understand this. In Poland, when it snows only this much, we are very happy, because now we know is summer."
Mr.p and I have this theory about the English obsession with weather: you guys are fascinated by it, because you never really have any extreme weather. That's why there are like a million TV programs on about tornados, hurricanes, blizzards, etc. You live vicariously through the rest of the world, but whenever anything happens here you're like "OH MY GOD, IT'S THE END OF THE WOOOOOOORLD!"

I'm from britain and the thing is our weather is so changable. We tend to have extremes of both ends of the scale, especially recently because of global warming and whatnot. About the news report, most media just make a big fuss out of everything to highlight how crap Blair is. So it's not that we are stupid and make a big deal out of everything, it's that the media make a big thing out of everything so they can blame it on the inferior governmant we have in place at the moment.
btw i can't believe you just judged a nation of 65 million people on one news article!
ps. about us brits not having extreme weather: we have more tornadoes than the us even though our contry is like 10 times smaller. Can you believe you just got dissed by a stupid brit - you must feel really bad right now :-(

Honey, if you believe that you have "extreme" weather here, you really are a stupid brit.
The weather here is 'changeable' only in the sense that one hour it may be raining and the next it may be sunny. But you never get here the real extremes of heat and humidity, and bitter cold. You might think you do, because you've got nothing to compare it to if you haven't lived anywhere else. But you don't.
If you want me to feel "dissed", you're really going to have a work a little harder.

I think it's more a case of Southerners complaining about the "cold" weather.

At hourly intervals, I might add! We do have odd weather but to be honest, I never really thought about it until I travelled much much warmer and colder places.

I said the media hype it up to much because of the crappy government
I just don't like it when people judge a whole nation from one experience, that's all.

The problem with Britain is that the worst of the winter weather is for a few days at a time - not worth investing financially in any big way in. Places like Canada and non-maritime climate/non Gulf Stream countries are hit bad enough to invest decent amounts in dealing with harsh weather whereas I'm sure that if we were guaranteed several months of freezing cold and snow here we'd be better prepared.
As it is, in Britain, the least bit of frost causes us to fall apart - trains get cancelled, roads become undrivable, blah, blah, blah.... But we certainly don't have extreme weather - not even close to it.
There is a sizable moaning tendency here. We moan about congestion on the roads, landfills, the state of the NHS, mobile phone masts but don't dare ask us to recycle, use public transport, eat healthy or stop downloading the crazy frog.
But hey, I prefer to think what this country could be rather than whats wrong with it.

Don't feel bad, in The States we have lots of people who blame the government for ALL their problems

mc bunsey, I am british you idiot.
And I only hear americans use the word 'diss'. God damn american culture creeping in here.
I've only 3 weeks the longest time away from the UK and that was in Florida and I saw more weather changers there - from crazy rain to crazy sunshine than the 25 years I've lived on this island.

FYI only middle-aged white Americans us the word "diss" anymore...the other night on Leno I think he and Phil Jackson both used it 2 or 3 times. In the slang cycle of hippness it has reached its end.

One middle aged lady doesn't represent everyone.
However, you're right anyway, I find it more humourous than idiotic though.

Fucking British people moaning about the weather. I wish they would all just shut the fuck up.
A load of people from my office left early yesterday "because of the weather". When they left it was windy but dry, our region had not been forecasted to have any snow, yet they still felt the need to get home early just in case. Fucking idiots, I was on a late shift and left work at 10pm, had absolutely no problem driving the 45 minutes journey home because it only rained...for 10 minutes.
