All I'm saying is, if there were two solo albums out, I'd buy D.M.C's first

D.M.C. FINALLY GOES SOLO

Though there has been talk about a solo career for D.M.C., one third of the legendary rap group Run-DMC, the album has yet to come to fruition. Until now. Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels will release Checks Thugs and Rock 'N Roll this coming January on his independently owned RomenMpire Records/From Rags 2 Riches Records. D.M.C. has already completed two videos for the songs "Just Like Me" and "Machine Gun."

According to a press release, the album features an array of musical talent which includes legendary artists like his partner Run and Doug E. Fresh, but mostly artists outside the hip-hop box such as Sarah McLachlan, Joey Kramer and Tom Hamilton (of Aerosmith), Kid Rock and Eliot Easton.

The album will condemn the "lifestyle-driven mentality that has come to dominate the rap world at the expense of authenticity." Says D.M.C. in the statement, "I wanted to make an album that speaks to issues that are deeply personal and universal at the same time. The last five years of my life have been an emotional storm of change."

D.M.C. says that dealing with the deaths of Jam Master Jay and his father, and the shocking discovery that he was adopted contributed to the emotion delivered on this album.

D.M.C. will also be featured in a new VH1 series called VH1 Rock Docs.
