I can't stop playing it. I don't even really like it that much, but I can't stop playing it.

They have a whole month's free trial too. Jesus. :(

The puzzle equivalent of the X factor.

Overrated, lacking in substance and fucking everywhere.

Yeah I know. It's become Spider Solitaire for me. I've got work to do, and I just can't work because there it is, sitting on my desktop, telling me to play. And when I am playing, I'm thinking "God this is so fucking stupid. Why can't I stop. I'm not even having fun." I think it's that way with a lot of solve-it-yourself puzzles. They're brainteasers and don't add to my enjoyment value.

The puzzles have been in Dell puzzle magazines for decades. They're so easy that I could do them as a girl. Why do they suddenly have a new name, and why are they popular? wtf?

They have been in the guardian for yonks (first UK periodical to carry them) and the difficulty is directly proportionate to the number of numbers pre-given. Go! Sudoku on the PSP is a damn good engine for it.

So they're for people who can't work a proper crossword but want to feel smart? A-ha!

My dad does these. I got really annoyed watching him doing them, knowing that the solution was arrived at by nothing more than simple routine, so I wrote a little macro for excel that solves them for him and showed him how stupid they are. He still does them, in fact I think he's even got a book of them now

Exactly. Someone wrote in to our school newspaper, saying they were crossword-retarded, and thanked them for the addition of a new game.

QA -- I think you're awesome and I was in no way implying that you are retarded. I can only work the easy crosswords, and I often need the help of a crossword dictionary. :o

Haha, no I think it's a retarded game too. I just can't stop playing it. It's one of those "Holy shit what am I doing" things that you can't stop because stopping = facing schoolwork.

When facing schoolwork, I always reorganized my books and music collection. Laundry is also good.

i think of it more along the lines of a word fill in than a crossword

because all it takes is logic to work out. its not like you need to know what the clues mean (i always get stuck on crosswords for that reason)
